At quarter-past four on Thursday afternoon, police responded to an emergency call at the dental office on North Magnolia Avenue in El Cajon, a city about 15 miles northeast of San Diego.

First responders provided ‘lifesaving support’ for three victims.

The dead victim was male, according to police who did not publicly identify him.

Authorities said the coroner’s office will be the ones to identify him.

Rob Ransweiler, the city’s Police Captain briefed the press Thursday evening. He said officers found the victim who died inside the office as the shooting was still going on and took him outside where they could safely perform lifesaving measures.

The two injured victims were taken to area hospitals. The woman, in her 20s, and the man, in his 40s, were stable of Thursday evening.

Police did not say whether or not they believe the shooting was targeted.

The suspect’s vehicle, a white U-Haul pickup truck with Arizona license plate AM14894, was identified shortly after the shooting. Police say they have confirmation that the suspect rented the truck.

Ransweiler said the police are working on tracking down the suspect but do not currently know where he is – noting that if they did, he would be in custody.

The FBI’s San Diego team as well as the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are aiding the investigation.
