A resident of a home shot up seven times in a drive-by shooting has broken cover to leave for work as detectives scoured the property for evidence.
Police rushed to a home in Cabramatta, in Sydney’s south-west, at 11.45pm on Tuesday following reports a home was peppered with bullets.
Nine people – including five children – were inside the five-bedroom home on Cabramatta Road during the horrific ordeal.
Detectives remained at the scene on Wednesday morning, bagging up items from the home, including a wallet and scouring the scene for evidence.
As detectives searched through three cars parked in the driveway, an older woman dressed in a hooded jacket and lugging a supermarket bag walked out of the home.
When asked by Daily Mail what happened, she responded: ‘I’m going to work’ before jumping into a black four-wheel drive and reversing out of the driveway.
Daily Mail understands the home is a rental property, which has been tenanted since 2020.
Court records reveal that in 2022, the property was the subject of a civil dispute between the owners and one of the residents.
It is unclear if that resident still resides at the property and Daily Mail does not suggest the two incidents are related.
A neighbour told Daily Mail she heard ‘at least seven’ gunshots ring out as the attackers opened fire.
Witnesses told police a white Toyota Corolla mounted the kerb, fired multiple shots, then fled the scene.
A single bullet hole was visible along the glass windows lining the front of the rundown house, while a single entry shot was also seen in a white fence pole.
A child’s pink bike lay dumped in the front yard, while a standing rack filled with shoes sat on the front porch, behind police tape.
The five adults and four children who were inside the home at the time of the attack escaped without any injuries.
A white Corolla was later found burnt out in the neighbouring suburb of Mount Pritchard.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze but the vehicle was severely damaged.
Investigators confirmed the Corolla was the same vehicle involved in the shooting, which is now undergoing a forensic examination.
Police are hunting for the gunman and have launched an investigation into the incident, with the home declared a crime scene.
