A massive search operation has resumed for a swimmer who went missing after getting caught in a rip at a popular Sydney beach.
Emergency crews were called after reports a man was last seen swimming in the water at Bronte Beach about 7.45pm on Sunday.
As the search dragged into the night, rescue crews decided to pause the operation until first light on Monday.

The search has resumed as of 6.30am, with police, lifesavers and an ambulance helicopter expected to contribute.
A NSW Police spokeswoman said the man had failed to resurface, sparking the widespread search.
Surf Life Saving NSW city branch duty officer John Restuccia said crews searched the rocks as far south as Bronte Bogey Hole, near the baths, before suspending the search overnight.
According to Mr Restuccia, two swimmers had got caught in the rip, but only one was so far able to be located and rescued.
NSW Police and Ambulance launched a ground, water and air search for the man with the help of a rescue helicopter and a police boat
