A mother-of-two was left ‘days away from death’ and permanently disfigured following a botched Brazilian butt lift (BBL).
Jodie Nicholson, 30, from Leeds, was lulled into a false sense of security when the clinic she used told her the non-surgical procedure was completely safe.
But, the carer’s experience took a terrifying turn for the worst when she developed a blood infection.
She told The Mirror: ‘It was sold to me as extremely safe, nothing like the surgical BBL, and I was told if I didn’t like it, it was only filler and could be dissolved, no downtime or aftercare needed.’
However, after the procedure in July 2022, Ms Nicholson said she’d ‘never felt ill like it’, describing how she quickly became ‘sick, dizzy and my vision was blurred’.
She added that her thighs turned ‘red hot and rock hard’ and ‘purple rings’ formed around the injection area.
‘By 10am the next morning my buttocks were oozing with pus,’ Ms Nicholson said.
She was prescribed antibiotics by her GP but struggled to keep them down was taken to A&E just 5 days after the BBL.
Ms Nicholson, who was drifting in and out of consciousness at the time, recalled how doctors said she was ‘days away’ from dying in her sleep.
Within hours, she was in theatre and surgeons were removing the filler and infected tissue, before draining 2.5 litres of pus.
Ms Nicholson stayed in hospital for another few weeks as she recovered from the infection.
She also had to undergo a second operation as one side of her body ‘was burning and felt like nettles on the inside’.
Three years later she still has scars and disfigurement from where she had tissue cut away.
Jodie – who has two sons, aged nine and three – said doctors warned her BBL procedures like hers can go wrong years even years down the line.
Her concern is those responsible ‘aren’t held accountable unless you’ve actually died’.
It comes after a mother-of-five became the first person to die from a Brazilian Bum Lift procedure in the UK.
Alice Webb, 33, died in September, just hours after having the surgery, which is believed to have been performed in the West Country.
Police said at the time that Ms Webb had undergone a ‘suspected cosmetic procedure’.
Two people have since been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and bailed.
An inquest held in October heard further investigation into the cause of Ms Webb’s death was needed.
