A British expat has taken to social media to complain about an infuriating habit of Aussie motorists.
Erika White, who lives on the Gold Coast, took to TikTok recently to highlight the impatience of motorists who immediately beep their horns at the first driver stopped at the traffic lights.
‘Why is it in when you’re driving and you’re stopped at the traffic lights, and as soon as that light turns green and you take more than two seconds to go, the person behind you is beeping,’ Ms White asked.
‘They have no patience here in ,’ she said.
The video which has been viewed more than 186,000 times, left many Aussies divided as they flooded the post with thousands of comments.
‘Because there’s 0 (sic) reason to take longer than half a second to take off on a green,’ one social media user responded.
‘When you are first you have a grave responsibility to go the moment it’s green,’ another social media user wrote.
‘The longer you wait the less people get through.’
Others, however, said it is unsafe to hit the accelerator as soon as the traffic light turns green as there could be hazards on the road.
‘Even when the light is green, if you’re first always check for red light [runners] then go,’ one social media user said.
‘I wait… have you not seen how many people run reds?’ another user wrote.
‘When I was in Melbourne the millisecond it turns green [people] are beeping, it’s so unnecessary.’

Drivers are encouraged to check that an intersection is clear before they move forward even when the lights turn green so that traffic doesn’t get blocked.
Drivers must also slow down when the lights turn amber and come to a stop before the white line if it is safe to do so.
Motorists in could be hit with fines for not stopping when the traffic lights turn amber.
Drivers in Queensland who commit the offence face the most expensive penalty, with a fine of $575 and three demerit points.
