A British motorcyclist has been killed after being hit by a car on Friday while in France on a bike tour with friends.

The 49-year-old victim, who has not yet been named by French authorities, was riding alongside his two compatriots through the commune of Gael, 30 miles west of Rennes, when a French driver, 52, pulled out into the road.

Two bikes narrowly missed the vehicle but smashed into the third, sending the unsuspecting rider from Wokingham flying.

Emergency services quickly descended on the scene, with firefighters and an air ambulance dispatched to the site of the incident just outside Gael.

But the rider was pronounced dead at the scene such was the severity of the crash.

Local prosecutors opened an investigation into the incident, but said it is being treated as an accident according to French media reports.

Two days following that tragic crash, a 60-year-old British cyclist died while biking through the town of Menerval in Normandy.

He was cycling along departmental road 130 just before midday when he suddenly suffered a cardiac arrest, according to actu.fr.

Emergency services again flocked to the scene and attempted to revive the cyclist but to no avail.

He too was pronounced dead at the scene, which was attended by the deputy mayor as well as other officials, according to the Seine-Maritime emergency services.

Officials said the victim was of ‘English nationality’ but have not yet released further details.
