Bridgerton star Bessie Carter looked unrecognisable as she dropped the flamboyant Regency-era frocks for a more subtle look in a new show.
The 30-year-old actress plays the role of Prudence Featherington – one of series three lead Penelope Feathertington’s challenging sisters.
However, Bessie looks a far cry from her Bridgerton character in new photos that emerged on Wednesday from the set of Outrageous, as filming for the UKTV drama gets underway.
Set in the 1930s, the series is based on Mary Lovell’s biography, The Mitford Girls, and it follows the story of the six Mitford sisters who ‘refused to play by the rules, with their often-scandalous lives making headlines around the world.’
Bessie was cast as Nancy Mitford alongside The Control Room’s Joanna Vanderham who will play Diana Mitford, and Casualty’s Zoe Brough who will portray Jessica Mitford.

In one snap from the set, Bessie is pictured in character and looks as if she has stepped straight out of the 1930s.
The star is smiling as she shows off a tight, curly bob and is wearing a velvet-look green coat.
Outrageous, which is made by Firebird Pictures and co-commissioned by UKTV and BritBox International, will be a six-part series and will be hitting our screens in 2025.

The show’s description reads: ‘Set against the gathering storm clouds of the 1930s, masked by the decadence, frivolity and lavishness of British high society, Outrageous will bring the full, uncensored story of the Mitford sisters to the screen for the first time.
‘A story of family bonds and betrayals, public scandal, political extremism, love, heartache and even imprisonment.
‘The show explores how and why these women, unwilling to conform, were so ahead of their time – and what drove them to take their very different, complex and often dangerous paths.
‘A family saga like no other, this is the Mitfords as they really were: unapologetic, outrageous and utterly human.’
Before shooting to fame on Bridgerton, Bessie was best known for her roles as Evie Wilcox on the BBC television series Howards End (2017), and Violet Woodhouse on the ITV television series Beecham House (2019).

Filming for the series began in July 2022 and wrapped in March 2023, with Bessie moving into Sam’s flat in Brighton three months later.
