A book documenting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement is on sale for just 10p at a Waterstones store less than 200 yards from Windsor Castle.

The title, ‘Harry & Meghan: A Royal Engagement’ by Halima Sadat, is on the shelves of the royal section in the bookshop’s entrance on the town’s high street.

The reduction amounts to a 98.7 per cent off the recommended retail price of £7.99 – with the book still available at full cost on the Waterstones website for collection.

The book, surrounded by other full-priced royal titles, was published on December 14, 2017 – just 17 days after the engagement was announced on November 27.

It is still available at a much higher price from other retailers, including Amazon for £3.14, WH Smith for £5.59 and publishers Batsford Books for the original £7.99.

It also tells the ‘tale of how the dashing Prince met and fell in love with the beautiful American actress’, despite their ‘differing backgrounds and career paths’.

It says that Meghan ‘faces a new chapter as she becomes a senior member of the Royal Family’, adding: ‘We have no doubt that she will embrace this duty with her natural charm and elegance.’

In addition, the book says: ‘With lavish illustrations and some previously unseen images, this is a souvenir to cherish.’

The author, Ms Sadat, has also written several other royal titles in recent years including the 2018 publication ‘Harry & Meghan: The Royal Wedding Book’.

Harry and Meghan announced their engagement with a photocall in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace in West London, before marrying at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle in May 2018.

However, by early 2020 they revealed they would be stepping down as senior royals before moving to the US – where they now live in Montecito, California.

Perhaps the most famous book on the couple was Finding Freedom by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, which was one of the fastest-selling royal books in history.

Harry also wrote a biography, Spare, which came out in January 2023 and included a series of royal bombshells. The Duke is thought to have signed a four-book deal.

The couple also have an £80million contract with Netflix to produce video content, although their £18million audio deal with Spotify ended early last summer.

A Waterstones spokesman told : ‘This 2017 published title has been discontinued by its publisher Pitkin Publishing and is no longer available for online orders.

‘It is normal practice for our shops to include remaining out of print or damaged stock in a local clearance offer at a reduced price, to make space for new books on their shelves.’
