President Joe Biden said former President Donald Trump ‘despises’ Latinos in an interview released Tuesday, as he traveled to Nevada and Arizona, two Hispanic-heavy swing states.
The president taped an interview Monday for Univision Radio with Raúl Molinar and hammered the presumptive Republican nominee for comments he’s made about immigrants and controversial pieces of his immigration policy.
Biden is trying to shore up support among Latino voters – especially in Arizona and Nevada – as the voting bloc has been drifting toward Trump with a lot of Republican outreach.
‘Trump, this Saturday, called migrants, he said they’re “not people.” He says immigrants are “poisoning the blood of this country,” separated children from parents at the border, caged the kids,’ Biden said.
The president also warned that Trump was planning a mass deportation, should he win in November and ‘wants to end birthright citizenship.’

‘I mean, we have to stop this guy. We can’t let this happen. We are a nation of immigrants,’ Biden said.
He also hammered Trump for helping tank a compromise immigration bill that was working its way through Congress, describing it as ‘the most far-reaching immigration reform ever.’
‘And guess what? Donald Trump got on the telephone, and this is a fact, started calling senators and saying don’t vote for that or you’ll be a victim of my retribution,’ Biden said. ‘And so guess what? It stalled.’
Biden pointed out how the bill would have accelerated the asylum process, increased the number of work permits and given a path to citizenship to so-called Dreamers.
Meanwhile, he reiterated, Trump and Repubilcans are trying to end birthright citizenship – meaning that every person born on U.S. land automatically becomes a citizen.
‘It’s crazy what they’re trying to do,’ Biden said. ‘But there’s a lot we can do.’
The Democrat set himself apart from Trump by saying that he ‘never demonized immigrants.’
‘I’m never going to separate families. And I’m still working to reunite those separated under Trump,’ Biden said. ‘He separated kids and parents at the border and encaged children. Planning mass deportations of literally several million people who are here in the country. Several million people,’ Biden went on.
