An unidentified dead body has been found on a popular beach, with police launching an investigation into the unexplained death.
This morning, a shocked member of the public stumbled upon a body along the beachfront at Aberavon in Port Talbot, Wales.
Emergency services were called to the scene and formal identification of the body is yet to take place.
South Wales Police confirmed the body was found at around 9.25am today.
According to eyewitnesses, officers are still at the scene this afternoon, including the Welsh Ambulance Service.
A South Wales Police spokesperson said: ‘South Wales Police was called at approximately 9:25am today (Wednesday, August 28) to a report of a body found by a member of the public at Aberavon Beach.
‘The person was pronounced deceased at the scene.
‘Formal identification has not yet taken place and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
‘The death at this moment is being treated as unexplained.’
