Boy Swallows Universe has secured an impressive 22 nominations at the 2025 AACTA Awards while Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth have also been recognised.
‘s biggest film and TV awards, dubbed the ‘Aussie Oscars’ are set to return to the Gold Coast in February and a whole host of global talents have been recognised.
The full list of nominations have been revealed, with Netflix smash hit series Boy Swallows Universe leading the charge with a record-breaking number of nominations.
The drama series, based off Trent Dalton’s 2018 novel of the same name, has nabbed a jaw-dropping 22 nominations – the most ever for a single production in AACTA history.
The globally popular show is up for Best Miniseries while its leading stars Felix Cameron and Zac Burgess – who both play Eli Bell at different ages – are in the running for Best Lead Actor in a Drama.
Phoebe Tonkin has also nabbed a nomination for Best Leading Actress in a Drama, where she is up against the likes of Fake’s Asher Keddie and Thou Shalt Not Steal’s Sherry-Lee Watson and High Country’s Leah Purcell, among others.

The series has also dominated the Best Supporting Actor in a Drama category, scooping up four out of the six nominations, with Simon Baker, Bryan Brown, Travis Fimmel and Lee Tiger Halley all in the running.
Boy Swallows Universe has also been recognised for its costume design, cinematography, editing and production design, among many other categories in its record-breaking clean-up.
It could mark another huge awards season success for the smash hit series after it took home a notable five awards at the 2024 TV Week Logie Awards from eight nominations.
At the ceremony, 15-year-old Felix took home his first ever award as he was handed the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent in a landslide victory.
Elsewhere at the AACTAs, Hollywood heavyweights Anya, 28, and Chris, 41, have been nominated for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga – despite the adventure film being a flop in the box office.
The $168million Mad Max prequel only managed to rake in $58million worldwide while it made a mere $3million in during its opening weekend in a disappointing blow.
However, its leading stars have still been recognised at the AACTAs as it nabbed a huge 15 nominations, with Anya – who played Furiosa – in the running for Best Lead Actress in Film.
She is up against Sarah Snook for Memoir Of A Snail, Phoebe Tonkin for Kid Snow, Late Night with the Devil star Laura Gordon, Audrey star Jackie van Beek and Anna Torv for Force Of Nature: The Dry 2.

Meanwhile, Aussie icon Chris – who starred as Dr Dementus – has been lauded in the Best Supporting Actor in Film category.
He has fierce competition including from Hugo Weaving, who has been nominated for How To Make Gravy, and Late Night with the Devil star Fayssal Bazzi.
Damon Herriman has also been nominated for both Better Man and How To Make Gravy while Richard Roxburgh has also been recognised for Force Of Nature: The Dry 2.
Despite stalling in the box office, George Miller’s Furiosa has also been recognised for Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design and Best Editing, among many others.

Better Man, directed by The Greatest Showman’s Michael Gracey and slated for release on Boxing Day, charts the true story of Robbie’s stratospheric rise to global fame, but has a unique touch as the singer is portrayed on screen by a CGI monkey.
While its leading stars have been recognised, it is also up for Best Film alongside Furiosa, Hugo Weaving’s How To Make Gravy, Late Night With the Devil and Memoir of a Snail.

How To Make Gravy, which is Binge’s feature film debut, has nabbed a total of 15 nominations, following very closely behind Better Man in a notable achievement.
Elsewhere in the television categories, Stan’s 80s-set outback road trip epic Thou Shalt Not Steal and popular romantic comedy Colin From Accounts have also been recognised.
The Artful Dodger, which stars British actor Thomas Brodie-Sangster, has also secured six nominations along with Paramount+ series Fake, which stars Asher Keddie.
Popular Aussie children’s animation show Bluey has also rounded out the nominations as the global phenomena is up for Best Children’s Program.
