Aussie drivers have been left amused after a little less than a dozen ‘no right turn’ signs were installed at an intersection.

A motorist spotted the bizarre sight at the McKinley Drive and Grand Boulevard T-intersection in Mount Atkinson, north-west Melbourne.

They took a photo and shared it to Reddit with the image showing eight signs erected at the site.

The signs were raised to stop motorists from crossing lanes of oncoming traffic and driving over the grass median strip in order to make a right turn.

Tyre marks visible on the median strip showed drivers had previously used it as a shortcut.

‘Am I allowed to turn right here?’ the Reddit post read in a tongue-in-cheek dig.

Social media users poked fun at the traffic measure with many labelling it overkill.

‘I mean, if you weren’t supposed to (turn right), they’d put up a sign or something,’ one Reddit user wrote.

‘Homer Simpson safety inspector at work,’ another replied.

‘That hint is f****** subtle.’

‘You’d think after the 7th no right turn sign they could’ve painted a left arrow on the road and a left only sign just to try something different?’ wrote another user.

Some commenters questioned why the original ‘no right turn’ sign was installed where it was difficult to see.

‘Have they put all these up because the original is BEHIND the f****** lamp post?’ one asked.

Another added: ‘Looks like the official sign is the one that’s behind the pole so you can’t see the f****** thing. Council manglement at it’s finest.’

‘I swear I didn’t see the sign officer. Anyone could have missed it!’

One was impressed by the artistic nature, pointing out one sign was laying on its side and suggested it was from the Museum of Old and New Art in Tasmania.

‘This is not road rule instructions, I think it’s art,’ they wrote.

‘Philosophy on the decisions you make in life. I conclude you can turn right. That sign having a sleep is probably from MONA.’

Many comments defended the installation, saying the extreme measure was necessary because of bad drivers.

‘Mock the reason they have to do it, the drivers around there must need that level of signage not to be incompetent drivers,’ one wrote.

‘If you look at Google St View you can see why there are so many signs there…. bogans gonna 4wd over the median strip,’ another replied.
