Calvin Harris recently surprised fans when he shared a very graphic picture of wife Vick Hope’s placenta amid their son’s birth announcement on Instagram.

The British DJ welcomed his first child with his wife, BBC Radio 1 host Vick Hope, 35, on July 20 and the couple announced the arrival of their firstborn, son Micah, on Instagram on Monday.

While fans rushed to the comments section to congratulate the pair, two snaps  included a graphic photograph of Vick’s placenta and another image of it chopped up to be dried and later turned into pills.

But Vick is far from the first celebrity to make use of her placenta after giving birth.

Although doctors and medical experts generally do not recommend eating it whether raw, cooked, or in pill form – that hasn’t stopped many stars.

In 2015, Kim Kardashian wrote on her website that she had had the placenta of her second child, son Saint, made into capsules to ward off PND.

She said: ‘So, I’m really not this holistic person or someone who would have ever considered eating my placenta,’ admitted Kim on her website KimKardashianWest.com.

‘And when I say ‘eat my placenta,’ I mean that I’m having it freeze-dried and made into a pill form – not actually fry it like a steak and eat it (which some people do, BTW).’

‘I know they’re not proven [to have any health benefits] but I’ve spoken to other mums who’ve had the same as me – the first time they were very weepy and upset and emotionally up and down, yo-yoing a lot in the first weeks, and they tried the placenta pills and found it helped them to feel more stable,’ she told PA.

‘I tried it this time – different companies do it, they come and collect [the placenta] straight after birth and it gets air-dried and then made into tablets.

‘You can have it made into gummies, you can even put it into skin care! But I have to say, I think it did help.’

The former Made In Chelsea star is mother to Sienna, five, and Aurelia, three, with her husband Hugo Taylor.
