Women’s soccer star Megan Rapinoe has decided that there is no God after the U.S. player sustained a ‘devastating’ injury in her last ever game and had to exit the field just three minutes in.

Last night – U.S. Soccer legend Megan Rapinoe, 38, said she was ‘pretty sure’ she tore her Achilles tendon in the final match of her long career: the NWSL Final.

‘I’m not a religious person or anything and if there was a God, this is proof that there isn’t. This is f***ed up,’ Rapinoe said in her post-game interview as her teammate Rose Lavelle, 28, laughed along with her.

Rapinoe’s OL Reign squad fell 2-1 to Gotham FC on Saturday night – losing the title after she was taken off after an injury just before the third minute.

‘For sure, I tore my Achilles,’ Rapinoe said in her post-match press conference. She said she felt a ‘huge pop’ in what she’s calling ‘the worst possible outcome’.

The 38-year-old described her early exit in the final as ‘devastating’ – especially because it was the final match of her career

The 38-year-old described her early exit in the final as ‘devastating’ – especially because it was the final match of her career.

In her typical style, Rapinoe injected some dark humor and some self deprecation into the situation.

‘I wasn’t overly emotional about it,’ Rapinoe said. ‘I mean, f***ing yeeted my Achilles in the sixth minute in my last game ever in the literal championship game.’

Rapinoe kept the jokes coming: ‘I guess I just rode until the wheels came right off!,’ Rapinoe joked, adding, ‘Now I’m just a NARP, a normal-ass regular person, having to do rehab which is f***ing devastating.’

Rapinoe added, ‘You gotta find the silver lining and the dark humor, and that’s just who I am as well.’

During her final press conference she couldn’t hold back the waterworks. She was seen tearing up and letting the emotions of her final game out as she prepared for the NWSL Final against Gotham FC.

Rapinoe is now a retired player – but her soccer legacy goes beyond her athletic abilities.

The U.S. player was an early supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement and was slammed for kneeling during the national anthem in 2016.

In 2012, Rapinoe came out as a lesbian, drawing vitriol from anti-LGBT critics.

Years later, she drew ire after an old video resurfaced that showed her autographing a ball at the 2019 ESPY Awards without acknowledging the young fan in front of her.

The athlete hit back at critics during the 2019 Women’s World Cup, describing herself as ‘particularly and uniquely and very deeply American.’

She told members of the media: ‘If we want to talk about the ideals that we stand for, the song and the anthem, and what we were founded on, I think I’m extremely American.’

The soccer star admitted that she was ‘not perfect,’ but suggested that the country was not either.

‘Yes, we are a great country, and there are many things that are so amazing and I feel very fortunate to be in this country. I would never be able to do this in a lot of other places,’ she said.

‘But also: that doesn’t mean we can’t get better. It doesn’t mean we shouldn’t always strive to be better.’

Former Fox News journalist Megyn Kelly slammed Rapinoe in September for ‘setting a terrible example’ after she refused to sing the national anthem at her last game as part of the U.S. team.

Kelly deemed the athlete’s display ‘her last middle finger to the United States.’

‘Scowling with her hands behind her back as the little girls in front of her put their hands on their heart,’ Kelly said.

Rapinoe outraged soccer fans in August when she laughed after missing a crucial penalty kick in their Women’s World Cup game against Sweden.

As Rapinoe jogged back to the halfway line where her team-mates were standing after blazing her kick over the crossbar, she appeared to be smirking and laughing to herself.

Explaining her initial reaction afterwards, Rapinoe said: ‘That’s like a sick, sick joke. I’ve never hit it over, when I miss they are saved. That’s why I had that smile on my face.

‘I’m like, ‘You’ve got to be f***ing kidding me.’ I’m going to miss a penalty? I mean, honestly, I can’t remember the last time I missed.’
