Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s speech at the Democrat National Convention baffled some who thought she was trying out a bizarre new accent.

The ‘Squad’ Democrat – who has faced accusations of affecting a voice in public in the past – spoke for about seven minutes in Chicago on Monday night, often to rousing applause.

However, at one moment, she appeared to affect a different voice when she compared Donald Trump with Kamala Harris.

‘I, for one, am tired of hearing about how a two-bit union buster thinks of himself as more of a patriot than the woman who fights every single day to lift working people from under the boots of greed, trampling on our way of life’.

The phrase ‘on our way of life’ caught the ear of many, with AOC adopting a markedly different accent and cadence to deliver it.

She seemed to extend the word ‘life’, prompting some conservatives to, as one account put it, asking: ‘What accent is AOC using here?’

Another wrote: ‘Aside from AOC discovering a new accent, it’s hilarious hearing her claim Donald Trump only fights for ‘the wealthy & big business’. The Democrat Party is literally the party of wealthy elites, Hollywood stars, pro athletes, and woke mega-corporations.’

She's a total fraud': Squad member AOC is slammed after video re-emerges of her using an 'accent' while addressing Al Sharptons National Action Network and pandering to her audience

‘AOC speech was cringe. The fake accent was way too much for me. Back snapped. I called it. DNC is cringe as all get out,’ added one other.

Ocasio-Cortez, who represents parts of the Bronx and Queens in Congress, has been accused of putting on accents in the past.

In 2023, she was slammed after video re-emerged of her using an accent while addressing Al Sharpton’s civil rights organization.

The Democratic lawmaker slipped into a Southern drawl as she told the audience: ‘I’m proud to be a bartender. Ain’t nothing wrong with that.’

Ocasio-Cortez, who grew up in the Bronx to Puerto Rican parents, has been accused of pandering to the crowd at the National Action Network conference in 2019.

A new viral video which brands AOC ‘a total fraud’ shows the clip spliced with more recent footage of her criticizing Donald Trump without any noticeable accent.

The accusations have dated back to Ocasio-Cortez’s early years in Congress, as she had to defend herself from the same video clip in 2019.

‘Folks talking about my voice can step right off,’ she wrote on Twitter. ‘Any kid who grew up in a distinct linguistic culture & had to learn to navigate class enviros at school/work knows what’s up. My Spanish is the same way.’

‘As much as the right wants to distort & deflect, I am from the Bronx. I act & talk like it, *especially* when I’m fired up and especially when I’m home. It is so hurtful to see how every aspect of my life is weaponized against me, yet somehow asserted as false at the same time,’ she continued.

Ocasio-Cortez grew up in the Bronx until she was five, when her family purchased a home in Yorktown Heights in upstate Westchester County. She returned to the Bronx after graduating from Boston University in 2011.

Upon her shock rise to Congress, DailyMail.com reported that Ocasio-Cortez had actually spent much of her youth living in upscale Westchester County, in seeming contrast with a hard-luck campaign biography touting her Bronx roots.

After living in the Parkchester condo until she was around age five, her family moved to the suburban home for better schools, selling it when her father tragically died of cancer in 2008, but retaining ownership of the Bronx condo.

The speech nearly tore the roof off the partisan United Center, as Ocasio-Cortez said she would be ‘happy’ to be a bartender as she deemed Donald Trump ‘two-bit union buster’ who would sell the country out for ‘a dollar.’

‘Republicans have attacked me by saying that I should go back to bartending,’ the New York Democrat said during her primetime speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC).

‘Let me tell you, I’m happy to any day of the week because there is nothing wrong with working for a living,’ she said as the crowd erupted into cheers.

‘Donald Trump would sell this country for $1 if it meant lining his own pockets and greasing the palms of his Wall Street friends,’ Ocasio-Cortez went on.

The adoring crowd chanted ‘AOC’ throughout her primetime address on day one of the DNC, just a few speakers before President Biden took the stage.

‘I, for one, am tired of hearing about how a two bit union Buster thinks of himself as more of a patriot than the woman who fights every single day to lift working people.’

The speech was decidedly establishment-approved, much different from her usual burn-it-all-down progressive style.

Instead, she appeared to embrace the Democratic Party’s platform and its leaders, which caught the eye of some critics on social media.

This convention, Ocasio-Cortez was given a primetime, first-night speaking slot. Last time around in 2020, she got just 90 seconds to give a virtual speech to symbolically endorse Sanders for the nomination.

‘In any other country, Joe Biden and I would not be in the same party,’ Ocasio-Cortez said in 2020.

Democrats are gathered to formally nominate Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz to lead the top of their ticket.
