Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez hit back at criticisms of her high-energy appearance at a Bronx rally ahead of fellow squad Rep. Jamaal Bowman’s primary.
The firebrand New Yorker was seen jumping around and waving her fists on stage as she tried to pump up the crowd at the Saturday event.
‘Are you ready to fight?’ she shouted into the microphone as rapper Cardi B played in the background.
On X Ocasio-Cortez quoted an image of a chyron from Fox News that read, ‘AOC stomps around stage to Cardi B song at rally.’
‘Fox News is big mad that we’re for the many, not the money,’ Ocasio-Cortez shot back.
‘We rallied 1200 people in the Bronx to take on dark money, get fired up, and send busloads of volunteers to canvass and phone bank. It’s called organizing. And it’s fun as hell.’
Ocasio-Cortez, along with Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., is backing Bowman in his contentious primary where he faces opposition from some big-name Democrats.
Bowman is locked in a contentious primary against George Latimer, and polls show he is hanging on by a thread.
The primary will test whether his support for Palestinians, his furious criticism of Israel and his progressive policies will lead to his downfall in his Bronx and Westchester district.
Bowman is seeking a third term in a primary that has seen historic levels of spending, and could be the first member of the progressive Squad booted from Congress if defeated.
The powerful American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) has poured $15 million into the campaign against him.
‘We are going to show f***ing AIPAC, the power of the motherf***ing South Bronx!’ Bowman yelled at Saturday’s rally.
Other Democratic New Yorkers like Rep. Ritchie Torres and former Rep. Mondaire Jones have soured on Bowman over his anti-Israel stances.
Bowman said the race would boil down to who shows up at the polls on Tuesday.
‘This is a turnout race, y’all. This is not about persuasion,’ he said. ‘We got our people; they got their people.’
