Caitlyn Jenner led the fury over Donald Trump’s conviction on all 34 felony counts in his historic hush money trial.
Trump is the presumptive Republican presidential candidate and is set to take on Joe Biden in November’s election.
The verdict could upend the 2024 White House race and prove a pivotal moment in the history of the United States.
‘An outrageous day for America. The entire process has been outrageous, of course. Shame on the state of New York. Shame on the corrupt DOJ,’ Jenner said on X.
The former reality television star is a longtime supporter of the former president, who previously refused to admit he lost in 2020.
Shock of the verdict reverberated across social media as the case is the first time a former U.S. President has faced a criminal trial.
Candace Owens said: ‘We just live in a banana republic guys. Time to just accept that. Nothing is legitimate— not the media, our elections, or the courts. This guilty verdict doesn’t shame Trump, it shames our country.’
Donald Trump Jr. said: ‘Guilty on all counts. The Democrats have succeeded in their years long attempt to turn America into a third-world shithole. November 5 is our last chance to save it.’
Ohio Senator J.D. Vance said: ‘This decision is a disgrace to the rule of law and our Constitution. Dems invented a felony to “get Trump,” with the help of a Soros funded prosecutor and a Biden donor Judge, who rigged the entire case to get this outcome. This isn’t justice, it’s election interference.’
Utah Senator Mike Lee said: ‘Congratulations, progressives. You’ve just guaranteed Trump’s election.’
Many people on social media have shared pictures of upside down American flags – a symbol used by insurrectionists at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Others insisted the verdict has secured Trump the next election, which the former president himself the voters on November 5 will decided ‘the real verdict.’
Comedian Megan Amram said: ‘Today was the day Donald trump finally became president.
Political activist Matt Walsh said: ‘Congratulations to Donald Trump on winning the 2024 presidential election.’
Top CEOs in the business world like billionaire Bill Ackman echoed the same sentiments as Republican Governor Ron DeSantis.
Ackman said any ‘objective person’ would have to agree with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis who said: ‘Today’s verdict represents the culmination of a legal process that has been bent to the political will of the actors involved.’
The shocking verdict out of Manhattan was received with shock on both sides of the Atlantic, with UK journalist Piers Morgan weighing in.
Morgan said: ‘This is a sad, shameful and ridiculous day for America. To drag a former President, who is running for President again, through criminal courts over something so trivial feels a massive overreach & an incredibly divisive and obviously politically partisan action.’
The verdict comes after five weeks of dramatic evidence and 22 witnesses being quizzed on the stand.
The 34 charges Trump faces each carry a maximum potential sentence of up to four years in prison. A sentencing date is set for July 11 at 10am ET.
The 12 jurors have sat silently in a New York courtroom as prosecutors made their case and Trump’s lawyers tried to discredit it
Prosecutors told of a plot by Trump to ‘corrupt’ the 2016 election by hiding a $130,000 hush money payment by his ‘fixer’ Michael Cohen to porn star Stormy Daniels.
Daniels alleged that she and Trump had sex a decade earlier, which he has denied.
The case featured explosive evidence by Daniels and lifted the lid on the ‘catch and kill’ practices of the National Enquirer tabloid, which bought stories that could be damaging to Trump and suppressed them.
But the actual criminal charges concern something more prosaic – the reimbursements Trump signed for Cohen for the payment.
The reimbursements, paid by Trump in monthly installments, were recorded as being for legal expenses.
Prosecutors say that was a fraudulent label designed to conceal the purpose of the hush money transaction and to illicitly interfere in the 2016 election.
Defense lawyers argued that Cohen actually did substantive legal work for Trump and his family and was paid for it.
