Outwardly they appear like the perfect couple, despite their rocky beginnings which saw them lose their jobs at Good Morning America.
But Amy Robach and TJ Holmes were at odds as they opened up about their relationship on their eponymous podcast, Amy and T.J.
The couple got real about the issues recently plaguing their romance in a raw new episode entitled ‘Things Ain’t Right’ – and Amy, 50, even choked up as she reflected on the ‘pressure’ she felt working alongside T.J. after their jobs were ‘unfairly’ taken from them.
‘You and I aren’t okay right now,’ T.J., 46, admitted at the top of the episode. ‘I said, you know what, let’s set up and do a podcast.’
The journalist described how, after seeing comments on TikTok remarking on how ‘cute’ they looked, he began to feel like a ‘fraud.’

‘In reading that, today at least, I feel like a fraud,’ he explained, later adding he was optimistic about them overcoming their current rough patch.
Amy got incredibly candid as she opened up about what love meant to her – and how it was more than a feeling and ultimately a choice.
‘I’ve talked a lot about living my truth and so this is part of it. I am fine having these conversations because there isn’t a couple out there who doesn’t. And so yes, I don’t, and I know you don’t, want to put on some false narrative that somehow we’re the perfect couple and we found our true love and that means we never fight, we always get along, and things are rosy and great. No they’re not.
‘And even as much as we now each other more than most people who have been in a relationship for over a year, we’ve known each other for a decade now pretty much and we know each other really, really well… like I’m learning things about you everyday as we’re, we’ve always worked together, but working with this type of pressure over our head is a whole other thing. That pressure is a lot.’
‘You talking about the work pressure or the pressure now publicly for us to succeed as a couple?’ TJ asked.
‘I don’t feel the pressure from the public to stay with you. I know you well enough and I’ve spent enough time with you and I knew how I felt and love sometimes is a choice when it’s hard. It’s not just a feeling. Lust is a feeling, but love is a choice, I believe, and I have chosen to love you, so I don’t feel pressure from the public to be with you. I would be devastated just personally because I want to be with you and I chose you.
Amy began to tear up as she opened up about losing her job and the future of her career: ‘But, I feel the pressure of our careers that I believe we’re unfairly taken from us, and I really want to be able to do what I love and I want to be able to do it with you, so that’s more the pressure I feel.’
An emotional Amy also admitted she felt some distance from her partner.
The couple got real about the recent issues plaguing their seemingly perfect romance
‘I felt extremely disconnected from you, and I am someone who does want and needs physical touch, words of affirmation and communication,’ she said, adding T.J. had been ’emotionally removed’.
‘The last few days, I felt disconnected from you,’ she explained.

‘I didn’t have a job to go to and I was away from a lot of friends and family,’ Robach said. ‘What did I do? I drank a lot. A lot more than I ever have. I don’t think I have ever gone a full day where I drink every single day and that was 2023 for me.’
Robach said that while she was consistently drinking, she wasn’t ‘getting wasted or drunk,’ but rather aiming to change her mood as she forged through a difficult timeframe in her life.
‘It was keeping a buzz going all day,’ she said, ‘or keeping a heightened state of mind during an anxious year.’
Holmes said facing unpleasant truths was an essential element to recognizing an issue that needs to be remedied.
