An active shooter who burst into a Border Patrol building and ambushed federal agents next to an airport in Texas has been killed.

The gunman, who was identified as Ryan Louis Mosqueda, entered the Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol building near McAllen International Airport early Monday morning.

Mosqueda, who was around 27 years old, was shot and killed by federal agents, McAllen Police Department chief Victor Rodriguez said during a press conference.

He was armed with an assault rifle and was wearing tactical gear when he ambushed Border Patrol agents.

McAllen Police Department officer Ismael García, who has 10 years of service, was wounded on the knee during the shooting, Saenz said. 

It’s unknown if he was struck by Mosqueda or by friendly fire.

All flights at McAllen Airport have been delayed as a result of the ordeal.

‘Early this morning, an active shooting took place at Rio Grande Valley Sector Annex,’ U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a statement. 

‘The suspect is deceased. The incident is still under investigation additional information will be shared as it becomes available.’

Rodriguez said Mosqueda was carrying a Michigan driver’s license.

Authorities were able to identify his vehicle, which contained a message that was spray painted on it. 

Rodriguez indicated the message may have been written in Latin.

Authorities found several weapons, including an addiitional assault rifle, and ammunition inside the car, which also had Michigan license plates.

Police learned that Mosqueda was also linked to an address in Weslaco, 16 mile west of McAllen.
