An abandoned raceway has been uncovered by an urban explorer, who was shocked to find the site’s track, stalls and offices still in remarkable condition.

Shakespeare County Raceway in Stratford-upon-Avon has remained untouched since it was closed down and sold in 2018 to make way for a new housing estate.

Known as Long Marston Raceway after its unveiling in 1980, the track was built on the runway of RAF Long Marston.

It was then renamed Avon Park Raceway ten years later before settling on its final title in 2008.

And Chloe Urbex, who hunted out the track having read about it online, has now found the site in ‘very good condition’ six years after it shut its doors.

The 23-year-old said: ‘This is one that I had assumed had been demolished but recently I saw a few posts on it so when we were looking at an abandoned house down the road we took a quick mooch around here.

‘It closed down and sold in 2018 to make way for a new housing estate.

‘It has been sat derelict ever since.

‘However, the new housing estate is slowly getting closer and closer so I’d imagine in a year this one will be gone.’

The urban explorer also shared drone images of her find to Facebook in a post that has received more than 3,800 likes.

The jaw-dropping pictures show the race track’s stop and start lines all still in tact, as well as the red box where cars would take off from.

To the side of the course lies mountains of sand, used in the event of a fire, and s attached to old boards.

In the images you can also see the old toilet block, box office and spare wheels.

Comments responding to the post were awash with nostalgia with users sharing their stories of trips to the track in years gone by.

Jason added: ‘Spent many weekends there at VW (Volkswagen) and Mini shows. Even took my cars up the track.’
