Melbourne radio legend Denis O’Kane has announced he’s ready to make a major career move.
The 77-year-old who has been a stalwart at top rating 3AW for decades says he’s finished with full time work.
His current gig as reporter and newsreader at the station is set to end in December.
However, Denis will not be hanging up the head phones just yet.
The Herald Sun reported on Saturday that the media veteran will be doing casual work with the station through 2025.
Denis, who started his career in radio at the age of 18, had a long association with the 3AW, with the current stint covering the last 20 years.

‘This is my third time here,’ the fan favourite told the publication.
He continued: ‘I started here in 1981 and most of my career has been at 3AW. I have been with the station for 27 years in total.
‘When you get to my age you think ”Wow, there are other things to do” and as long as I can keep a toe in the radio station it will be great.’
He added: ‘3AW has been very special to me, it has been like a second home. We have a great culture here and it always has been the case since my involvement with the station…[radio] gets in your blood’.
After starting his career in country radio in Victoria he moved on to gigs in Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne’s 3XY.
He’s also spent time at 2GB, 3AK and 2Day FM. Aside from his on air role Denis has served as station manager for 3AW and news director at Fox FM.
Denis has worked closely with 3AW stars such as Ross Stevenson and Russel Howcroft and Tom Elliott.
It comes after 3AW recently announced another change to its on air line up.

Top radio stars argue over whether women are treated like sex objects at the Brownlow Medal
AFL great Jimmy Bartel is set to host the station’s Wide World of Sports from next year.
The 40-year-old former Geelong star will also be at the mic on the Melbourne station for Thursday Night Footy and Friday Night Footy.
But in a surprising new interview the footy legend revealed his favourite sport – and his first choice might stun loyal AFL fans.
‘I’m a cricket tragic,’ Jimmy told 3AW breakfast last month.
During the chat with hosts Ross Stevenson and Russel Howcroft the 2007 Brownlow Medallist continued to gush over ‘the gentlemen’s game’.
‘I’m an absolute nut for (cricket).
‘I flick on test series that don’t involve . I got enthralled in the New Zealand and India test series…I just get enough of the game.’
Elsewhere in the chat Jimmy shocked listeners again when he said that if we were to do over his sports career Aussie Rules would be a non-starter.
‘If I had my time again I think it would be golf (as a career).
‘it’s the game we all want to play – it looks pretty low impact and there’s big money. And if we could all master the game of golf we ‘d all be pretty happy.’
Jimmy, who played a whopping 305 games with the Geelong Football Club between 2002 and 2016, comes to his new role after hosting 3AW’s Sunday AFL show in 2023.
He told listeners last month that he set to start his new gig in February.
