A wheelchair-bound man has died after he was hit by a train in Brisbane.
Emergency services were called to Coorparoo train station in Brisbane’s south-east at about 11.40am on Tuesday.
The man, aged in his 20s, was hit by an empty Tilt train with first responders seen covering a wheelchair with a tarpaulin at the scene.
‘At 11:45am today, an empty Tilt Train struck a person at the Stanley Street East level crossing at Coorparoo,’ a Queensland Rail spokesman said.
‘Our thoughts are with everyone involved in this incident, including our train crew.
‘Queensland Ambulance and Queensland Police services are in attendance and we are working with emergency services on site.’
Police closed nearby roads to traffic and pedestrians were urged to avoid the area.
Rail replacement bus were organised for commuters using the Cleveland line.
They were warned to expect delays of up to an hour in both directions.
‘Cleveland line trains are currently suspended in both directions due to an incident requiring emergency services,’ Translink posted earlier on X.
The Spirit of Queensland Tilt Train was operating on the Cleveland line because of the closure of the exhibition line for the Cross River Rail Works.
The Tilt train left the level crossing after the incident, about 2.57pm.
The Stanley Street East level crossing was reopened to the public just after 3pm.
