There was understandable outrage at the Grammys on Sunday night when billionaire rapper Kanye West appeared to order his young wife Bianca Censori to drop her fur coat and stand naked before the cameras – save for a gossamer sheath as transparent as cling film.

The red carpet audience watched in horrified silence as the n model and architect allowed the fur coat in question to slither down her body to the floor before turning to face the crowd.

And few were in any doubt as to whose idea this was.

According to expert lip reader Nicola Hickling, Kanye had told his wife: ‘You’re making a scene now. Make a scene, I’ll say it’ll make so much sense,’ to which she nodded her head. Then he added the words: ‘Drop [the fur coat] behind you and then turn. I got you.’

So explicit were the resulting images that most publications blurred her breasts and lower body.

Bianca is only 30; her husband is 47. So, to see her appear to be in some kind of robotic trance obeying her husband’s repulsive demands – for her to strip off for the live Grammys audience plus the millions on television worldwide – caused consternation and real discomfort, especially among the women who had the misfortune to be watching.

Some have suggested that Bianca was a victim of coercive control, the sinister behaviour now equal in British law to domestic violence and punishable with a prison sentence.

It’s easy enough to see why women and many men would jump to this conclusion – seeing Bianca as a hapless pawn in maniac Kanye’s plan to swell a fortune already estimated by Forbes to be worth $2.5billion.

This is Bianca as nothing more than a luscious toy in Kanye’s game to further increase his lucrative fanbase which already includes a staggering 2.77 billion followers on Instagram.

Kanye, meanwhile, is keen to re-build his following on X after being temporarily suspended for a series of anti-Semitic rants.

It paints a picture of Bianca the victim, Kanye the monster…

Yet I have a rather different take on the couple: I wonder whether, far from being swept along, a helpless prisoner of her husband’s ambitions, Bianca might just be a willing partner in it all.

Are Bianca and Kanye the new Bonnie and Clyde, the Great Depression outlaws who outraged yet captivated the American public – two lovers who did a deal with the devil?

Of course, I’m not suggesting Bianca and Kanye are gun-toting murderers. Nor do they rob banks. Yet, like Bonnie and Clyde, they seem desperate to shock and show off. Is this psychosis? Narcissism? A love of money or all of the above?

Perhaps, as I suspect, they are playing carefully choreographed parts to infuriate today’s polite society – 21st century social media gangsters who shock the world for fun, for thrills and for millions?

It is not as if Kanye needs the money. Despite his divorce from Kim Kardashian, upon whom Kanye built his fame, his social media millions and music videos have already made him a vast fortune.

Meanwhile, Bianca was not some star-struck ingenue when she first met the rapper.

Educated in Melbourne, , she went to a Baptist grammar school, has a master’s degree in architecture from the University of Melbourne and created her own jewellery brand, Nylons Jewelry, after leaving high school.

She was already employed as Kayne’s Head of Architecture at his clothing and apparel company Yeezy before she became the second Mrs West in 2022.

Bianca was far from some kid from the Aussie bush: she was already a savvy businesswoman in her own right, working alongside her husband. Less as his hapless muse and more, perhaps, as his co-conspirator.

And what fun they’ve had keeping their names – and her naked body – in the public eye, feeding the voracious appetite of social media followers all the while.

In January 2024, Censori was snapped posing inside their Las Vegas casino hotel room wearing a black leather basque, her breasts exposed.

The following month, she was pictured alongside West wearing nothing but a completely transparent raincoat.

Perhaps most shocking of all was her appearance in Paris a few days later in a short fur jacket and a pair of sheer tights with no underwear – an apparent challenge to French indecency laws.

The list goes on and on. Bianca’s naked form always appears alongside her fully-clothed husband. The images are routinely posted to his followers.

Does Bianca seem drugged? Unhappy, a zombie, a victim of coercive behaviour, of spousal control, manipulated in any of those pictures? Not to me.

Quite the opposite, in fact.

She seems empowered, intoxicated. Bianca appears to relish being the bad girl to his Kanye’s bad boy, happily sacrificing her body on the altar of his career.

Judging from the evidence so far – not least after this latest Grammys spectacular – I’ve come to the conclusion that she loves the limelight as much as he does. That they are partners in grime.

So often and so brazenly does she turn herself into a cross between a sleazy LA lap dancer and a blow-up doll that I’ve concluded we are dealing with an intelligent woman who knows what she’s doing.

According to biographer Jeff Guinn, writing about the original Bonnie and Clyde: ‘They fell in love at first sight and the dysfunctional sparks flew right away. He asked her to risk everything for him. And that was so romantic.’

Can the same be true of Kanye and Bianca? I wonder.

I’m certain of this, at least: that, like Bonnie and Clyde, they will keep fighting to enrich themselves – and decency be damned.
