Married At First Sight’s Awhina Rutene has finally addressed the persistent rumour that her appearance on the show was a ‘dream come true.’

Despite previous reports that she had expressed interest in signing up for the experiment for years, Awhina, 30, is now setting the record straight.

‘I really wonder who spread that rumour because a dream come true usually entails that you dreamt about it for a long time,’ she told Daily Mail .

‘Now, I had just got out of a very long-term relationship prior to coming on the show. Coming onto MAFS definitely wasn’t a dream come true, but getting married and finding my person, yeah, that’s what everyone dreams for, right?’

Described by Daily Mail as having a ‘feisty edge,’ Awhina is already earning a reputation as the wildcard of the season.

Her outspoken attitude and rule-breaking tendencies have reportedly earned the praise of the show’s producers.

‘Awhina’s rule-breaking makes her unpredictable – and that’s exactly what makes her so captivating,’ a production insider previously revealed.

‘She’s bold, she’s fearless, and she’s got no problem confronting anyone who crosses her.’

It was previously claimed that she had openly discussed wanting to sign up to the experiment for years, leading many to believe that finally being cast was indeed a ‘dream come true.’

But Awhina insists she is not here for fame or to play a character, stating, ‘I’m not here to be the first, second, third, fourth, or fifth character in the show, I’m here to find love.’

With her fiery nature and no-nonsense approach, Awhina will undoubtedly shaking things up on MAFS, ensuring that her journey—whether a dream or not—will be one to watch.

It comes after the Perth-based mother-of-one spoke out about the moment her groom Adrian Araouzou admitted he wasn’t on board with the fact that she had a child.

‘I don’t know if I can love my kids as much as your kid,’ he told mother-of-one Awhina during Thursday night’s episode.

Recalling the confronting moment on their honeymoon, Awhina shared her first reaction when Adrian dropped the bombshell.

Despite the shock, Awhina said she gave Adrian time to mull it over, and he eventually started to come around.

‘I feel like it was a surprise and he needed time to process that information. And by the end of the night, things started to run a little smoother and he opened up a bit more. But, yeah, my initial reaction was a bit of dread… He quickly warmed up to me.’

Awhina made it clear early on that her son was her priority, and she expected Adrian to respect that.

‘When he reacted the way he did to the news about my son, I was thinking, okay, so maybe he’s never dated a single mum before. I wanted him to know that it is a big part of my life. So accepting me obviously comes with the acceptance that I am a mum and I have a son.’
