alert-–-channel-nine-under-fire-for-‘fake-news’-segment-during-today-showAlert – Channel Nine under fire for ‘fake news’ segment during Today Show

Channel Nine has been accused of ‘confusing’ viewers by playing s during a report on the Today Show.

In one segment, traffic reporter Marina Ivanovic presented viewers an update while the words Nine Traffic Network [NTN] were displayed on the screen.

However, another similar segment saw retired tennis champ Andy Murray in a Nine branded traffic update being chased by Uber Eats delivery drivers.

The letters NTN were also displayed on the screen, tricking viewers into thinking it’s a regular traffic update.

‘Hello, Marina Ivanovic with Nine’s traffic network,’ the traffic reporter said.

‘There were delays across Melbourne after two Uber Eats delivery people were seen chasing retired tennis star Andy Murray near the city’s South East.’

The presenter continues as vision shows a shot of Murray being chased by an Uber Eats worker.

‘More as the situation unfolds,’ Marina continues.

An Uber Eats logo is visible on the left with the words ‘Proud Sponsor’ underneath.

A Nine spokesperson told Inside Media: ‘The 15-second ad is a paid spot clearly positioned within commercial breaks and is an obvious integration of Uber Eats within an n Open context continuing the Andy Murray story arc.’

‘Nine’s other programs including Married at First Sight is also included within the integration.’

Media commentator Rob McKnight said the ad ‘blatantly crosses the line between a report and a commercial’.

It comes after Nine newsreader Peter Overton was left red-faced in October, after he made an awkward slip of the tongue live on-air.

The Sydney presenter was reporting on a tragic shooting in Austria, in which a hunter killed two people, including a local mayor.

Overton looked horrified when in the middle of presenting to camera, he accidentally said ‘an n mayor’, instead of an Austrian one.

‘An n mayor is one of two people shot dead in the country’s north,’ Overton said in his report.

However, moments later Overton looked embarrassed as he realised he had inadvertently said the wrong county.

‘Did I say n, it should have been Austrian! If I confused you, I do apologise,’ he said.

Viewers quickly took to social media to praise the veteran presenter for quickly recovering after the blunder.

‘Good recovery. Dude’s always been professional,’ one person wrote and a second added: ‘We all have our bad days.’
