A grieving aunt has warned Aussies not to take their lives for granted after her ‘amazing’ niece was killed in a horror car crash.
Sharna Woodland, 35, died when a car she was travelling in rolled down an embankment on Bairnsdale-Dargo Road, at Cobbannah, in south-east Victoria, at about 10.30pm on January 11.
The driver, a 26-year-old Maffra woman, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Mrs Woodland’s aunt Linda Pendergast told Daily Mail on Thursday her niece was ‘the kindest girl you’d ever meet’.
‘She was the most amazing girl. She was beautiful and an amazing mum and wife to her husband,’ Ms Pendergast said.
‘She was so kind and she never had a bad word to say about anybody. She was the kindest girl you’d ever meet. She’ll be remembered always. Our family is so close and she was so special.’
Ms Pendergast shared a timely message with Aussies drivers in lieu of the tragedy.
‘Don’t take your life for granted. You never know what’s around the corner,’ she said.
Mrs Woodland’s two children – Isla, 6, and Nate, 2, – are understandably confused about what happened to their mother.
‘They’re just little kids. She just lived for her little children so it’s really tough. Their dad is amazing with them and we’ll all reach out and help, she said.
Mrs Woodland was a Sale local who grew up in Bairnsdale and was well-known within her local communities.
A GoFundMe page set up to support her family has raised nearly 70 per cent of its $22,000 target as of Friday morning.
‘I can’t believe it (support), it’s been overwhelming,’ Ms Pendergast said.
‘The support from the community has been amazing and a lot of people we don’t even know have donated.
‘Her mum won’t have to go to back to work straight away because of this and she can help look after the kids. It’s going to be such a help.’
More than 1,300 people died on n roads in 2024, including 284 in Victoria.
Already in 2025, 14 lives have been lost on Victorian roads.
Police are still investigating the fatal crash.
