British Airways has suspended all flights to Abu Dhabi from Heathrow, causing more disruption for passengers.
The airline said issues with the delivery of engine parts from Rolls-Royce have caused the route to be suspended
It comes amid engine issues on the airline’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircrafts.
Passengers who have booked flights between the destinations will be forced to fly via Doha or Dubai, or via London Gatwick
The disruption is expected to last from March 30 to October 25 next year.
A spokesperson for BA told The Sun: ‘We’re disappointed that we’ve had to make further changes to our schedule as we continue to experience delays to the delivery of engines and parts from- particularly in relation to the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines fitted to our 787 aircraft.
‘We’ve taken this action because we do not believe the issue will be solved quickly, and we want to offer our customers the certainty they deserve for their travel plans.
‘We’ve apologised to those affected and are able to offer the vast majority a flight the same day with British Airways or one of our partner airlines.
‘We continue to work closely with Rolls-Royce to ensure the company is aware of the impact its issues are having on our schedule and customers, and seek reassurance of a prompt and reliable solution.’
In October, the airline announced it had cancelled all flights between New York and London Gatwick due to delays in their Trent 1000 engine deliveries from Rolls-Royce, starting in December.
The Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines were designed to power the Boeing 737 Dreamliner aircraft.
A Boeing 787 Dreamliner powered by a Trent 1000 engine is 20 per cent more efficient than the previous Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
The UK-based airline selected Rolls-Royce Trent engines to power 24 of its Boeing 7687s back in 2007, however with this delay, the fleet has been reduced by 15 per cent.
British Airways has also had to push back its plans to relaunch its route between London Heathrow and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, which was due to resume on November 12.
Now, the route will most likely be available again in April 2025.
