A Montreal synagogue has been firebombed just a year after it was targeted in a separate Molotov cocktail attack.

The Jewish community center in Dollard-des-Ormeaux was hit by the crude device early on Wednesday.

The site plays host to Congregation Beth Tikvah synagogue, the Hebrew Foundation School and the West Island offices of the Federation CJA.

No injuries were reported, but the synagogue’s door was left scorched and with a smashed window.

Emergency responders were called to the scene at around 3am and firefighters managed to put out the blaze with a fire extinguisher.

A witness saw a suspect loitering at the site before the cop arrived, Montreal police spokesperson Véronique Dubuc told the Montreal Gazette.

Police said they discovered the remnants of a makeshift firebomb and are now combing through video surveillance of the area to locate the culprit.

Dubuc added that incendiary devices appeared to have been thrown at the door of the synagogue and around the back of the community center.

It comes after the same synagogue was firebombed in November last year, just a month after Hamas launched its attack on Israel that murdered 1,200.

Local official François Bonnardel condemned the violence and said it has ‘no place in Quebec’.

‘Once again, completely unacceptable actions were taken against the Jewish community in Montreal when buildings were set on fire yesterday,’ he wrote in French on X.

‘We are told that the SPVM will increase its visibility in the area to reassure the population.

‘We will let the police conduct the investigation. I repeat, these actions have no place in Quebec.’
