Is Chris and Dianne’s win what Strictly is all about?

We celebrating the dancing but isn’t it about how perseverance and capturing the hearts of the nation?

Jen the bumblebee seems to think so and who can blame her, Chris wasn’t the best dancer tonight but his story is incredible and will hopefully inspire many disabled people out there.

Chris and Dianne deserved to win. They have shown people how to overcome adversities and how to form such a great friendship. It has been lovely watching their journey. It’s not all about the best dancing its about the people who capture our imaginations and our hearts.

One of our readers has described the scoring by judges as a ‘bit of a cop out’ with three judges scoring 10 for every dance performed tonight.

Only Craig Revel Horwood marked Chris McCausland, Tasha Ghouri, JB Gill and Sarah Hadland less than the maximum over the course of the evening.

The scores tonight were only intended as a guide for the public vote.

A blind charity has sent “congratulations” to Chris McCausland and his partner Dianne Buswell after their 2024 Strictly Come Dancing win.

Debbie Miller, director of customer advice and support at Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), said:

Congratulations to Chris & Dianne for winning Strictly Come Dancing! You’ve both had an incredible journey and watching you dance each week has put a spring in RNIB’s step. We will miss seeing Chris and Dianne on our screens every Saturday night now that the show has come to an end.

The representation on Strictly this year, with the casting of Chris McCausland and (deaf contestant) Tasha Ghouri, has left an immeasurable positive impact. It highlights the importance of diversity and has sparked so many positive conversations, which is what we need to raise awareness and dispel myths about living with a disability. We hope to see more of it.

Strictly Come Dancing’s Chris McCausland and pro partner Dianne Buswell have been crowned 2024’s champions following Saturday’s glitzy live final – after making history as the show’s first ever blind contestant.

The comedian, 47, pipped fellow finalists Tasha Ghouri, JB Gill and Sarah Hadland to the post in the show’s ‘best ever’ final as his cheeky whit and inspiring story was said to have saved the show following a year of scandals.

The highest ever scoring final saw all the couples each perform a whopping three dances for the judges before hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman announced Chris as the winner.

The funnyman broke down in tears as she was embraced by his fellow celebs before throwing Dianne triumphantly over his shoulder as the audience went wild.

Asked how the moment felt by Tess and Claudia he struggled for words clearly gobsmacked by the result, before replying: ‘It’s astonishing, I don’t know what to say’.

He wasn’t there tonight as he recovers from injury but Strictly contestant Nick Knowles has congratulated Chris McCausland for winning the Glitterball tonight.

Here’s the moment we were all waiting for tonight as Chris McCausland and his partner Dianne Buswell were crowned champions of this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Well that’s the end of another Strictly Come Dancing as Chris and Dianne are crowned champions.

The show has finished but stick with us for reaction and analysis on a special night in the ballroom.

In his first words as Strictly champion, Chris says ‘it’s astonishing’.

He is lost for words as he stands next to the Glitterball trophy before joking he thought he could leave in the first week despite not public vote.

He pays tribute to Dianne by saying the trophy is for her as he jokes unless she changes her number she’s stuck with him.

On a more serious note, he says his victory proves anything can happen before his partner, Dianne Buswell, said the trophy is for ‘both of us”.

It is the first time Buswell, who joined the show in 2017, has won Strictly.

She says:

Chris says that this is for me, but it’s not for me – this is for me and you, Chris. We did this together. This is for both of us, not just me, we worked together and we did it.

We reported earlier how Jones was appearing tonight ahead of a Christmas special five years after their last one.

Well there’s not much between the four finalists as Sarah and Vito cap off the final performance with a 40.

Sarah and Vito have left it all on the ballroom as they complete their third and final dance to Madonna classic Like A Prayer.

She even finds time to gee up the audience as she channels her inner Madge and ends the routine on a steps so literally a high point to end on.

Anton sums up the performance by saying it’s the ‘best final ever’, describing Sarah as an exceptional performer who has ‘blown me away’.

Motsi adds the Cha Cha was ‘amazing’ and caps off an ‘unforgettable’ final as Shirley thanks her for taking part.

She then says it’s down to the viewers to decide.

Sarah and Vito are about to perform their final dance with a Cha Cha to Like A Prayer by Madonna.

Sarah says the dance felt like a ‘turning point’ for her in the competition as she explains why they have picked that routine.

Wow…what a moment as the judges hug one another before Craig embraces Chris and Dianne.

Did we just watch the champions last dance? There will be a LOT of support for the pair.

That might be the most emotional moment of the series as Chris and Dianne end their final dance before sobbing in an embrace.

Chris warned he’ll be a mess and the tears come pouring out.

Anton says he can imagine the whole of Liverpool crying in their living rooms as he says the dance will have the power to change lives.

Craig opens up a Christmas card he has written to the pair as he tells them how watching them rehearse for the final left his eyes ‘wide open’.

Chris and Dianne will finish off with a Waltz to You’ll Never Walk Alone by Gerry and the Pacemakers, a song close to Chris’s heart as proud Liverpudlian.

Chris reflects the past 13 weeks have been ‘life-changing’.

Good chance there’ll be tears at the end of this.

It’s another 40 for Tasha and Aljaz as they go toe to toe with JB and Lauren.

These couples will end the night neck and neck on the leaderboard, but will one of them leave with the Glitterball trophy.

Tasha is reduced to tears as she completes her third and final dance with the judges in tears and on their feet.

Craig kicks it off by saying their performance was ‘fabulous’, the first time he has used the word tonight.

Shirley says she’s delighted for YouTube to watch that again and again as she describes Tasha as ‘very special’.

And Anton rounds off by saying it’s a shame it has to end as he reiterates Tasha is the best celebrity dancer to appear on Strictly.

Tasha and Aljaz will finish off their third dance with an American Smooth to Someone You Loved by Lewis Capaldi.

Will be the second American Smooth of the evening after Sarah and Vito’s effort earlier tonight.

The couple say the beauty and meaning behind the dance is why they picked it as they reflect on their chemistry together.

It’s another 40! Will that be enough for them to lift the Glitterball?

Wow…that was some energy from JB and Lauren as they finish their samba.

A routine packed with fun and passion from the pair as they finish their three dances.

Shirley says JB’s samba was one of the best she’s seen, and more cooler than the one that won him the sambathon earlier in the series.

Anton tells JB he’s an exceptional dancer and thanks him for the entertainment over the past 13 weeks.

Even Craig loves it…are we heading for another 40?

JB and Lauren will start their final round with a Samba to Mas Que Nada by Sergio Mendes.

JB says it was a ‘no brainer’ to the choose the dance which sums up their Strictly ‘party’.

More on his relationship with Lauren, whom he describes as ‘special’ for helping him when Amy was forced to withdraw.

Motsi starts and says the dance left her speechless and knocked her off her feet.

Shirley is equally praiseworthy as she remarks the standard has been ridiculously high.

Anton tells Sarah he’s glad she listened to Vito and not herself, while Craig somewhat brings down the euphoria with a little criticism which is then drowned out by boos.

Sarah and Vito will complete the show dances with a routine performed to Cabaret by Metropole Orkest.

Reflecting on her journey to the final, Sarah says Vito always believed in her as she admits she had no expectation of reaching the final four.

Starting her routine on a podium, there’s plenty of expression from the pair as they skip and hop around the ballroom with plenty of spins.

Another fantastic effort from Sarah to wrap up the show dances.

Chris and Dianne have left judges Shirley and Motsi in tears.

Shirley tells Chris and Dianne they have ‘broken new ground’ in the ballroom, while Anton offers that Dianne wouldn’t dance any different with him which he says is testament to the Liverpudlian comedian.

He then describes him as the most ‘extraordinary’ person to perform on Strictly.

Before we get to the floor, a poignant moment as Chris reflects on his Strictly journey.

He says he hopes his appearance this year will help change attitude towards disabled people and says his young daughter was really nervous before he started on the show.

The couple are having a lot of fun on the ballroom as they sing a long to the music and end with a knee slide.

Full of heart and energy, what will the judges think?

Wow, what a moment for Tasha as her brother surprises her just moments after she tells Claudia he’s in .

Her sibling Alex steps out and gives her a hug as she appears overcome with emotion.

He then gives Aljaz a hug.

Lovely moment for Tasha after such an impressive performance on the ballroom.

Craig remarks the show dance has ‘sass and style’ while Anton says it was the perfect dance for him.

Shirley tops the praise by telling the couple the nation is ‘blessed to watch it’.

The judges appear in disagreement as Craig says he felt the performance was slightly heavy while Shirley insists it was ‘perfectly grounded’.

Motsi and Anton are far more effusive as Motsi tells JB, ‘hank you for bringing the party to Strictly’, while Anton describes his dance as ‘unbridled joy’.

Before we go to the judges, Amy Dowden pops up to say how proud she is of JB and hug her replacement Lauren.

JB will start the second round as the couple perform their show dances.

The couple take to the floor and will dance to a medley of Motown songs.

We now see a montage of the JLS singer’s Strictly story which includes a tribute to Amy Dowden who was his partner before she was forced to withdraw from the competition.

Turning to his current partner Lauren Oakley, JB says Lauren gave him the confidence to keep going.

The couple wow the audience and have even the judges on their feet. The couple are certainly staking their claim for the Glitterball!

Craig earns a few boos as he says he noticed a bit of jumping at the start but he then goes on to say the couple’s lifts were ‘spec-tac-u-lar’.

Sarah Hadland will complete the first round with an American Smooth.

Shirley Ballas is the couple’s judge and tells Sarah she is performing for women over 50 as she gives them some last minute tips.

Sarah and Vito are dancing to a soundtrack of Heather Small’s Proud.

The couple both display huge grins as they make the most of the ballroom with a high energy routine.

Vito is immediately heard saying sorry as it appears he suffered from some kind of wardrobe issue involving his trousers.

The judges have had their say. Craig congratulates them as he says the couple listened to his instructions while Motsi tells Chris, ‘I’m a mess because of you’, as she bursts into tears.

Shirley says the routine is a ‘genuine improvement’ from the first time they performed it and Anton remarks ‘just wow’.

You can sense the encouragement in the audience with plenty of cheers and whoops as Craig and Dianne glide across the dance floor. There’s another black out moment as it goes dark before Chris carries Dianne on his shoulders.

Huge release of emotion as the couple finish with the crowd on their feet

Talk about a hard act to follow! But if anyone can it’s Tasha and Aljaz who have scored 10s on more than one occasion this series.

They are performing the Couple’s Choice to What About Us by P!nk. Motsi delivers the news to them in person.

It’s a sensual start from the couple who show style and grace before ending with a tender hug.

‘So gorgeous’ is the immediate reaction from Tess, while Motsi says it was beautiful.

The praise keeps coming from the judges as Anton speculates Tasha may be the most accomplished dancer to ever step on the Strictly ballroom.

Craig Revel Horwood is called up to the podium for a surprise celebration after recording his 100th perfect 10 score in Strictly Come Dancing.

JB and Lauren are up first in the final with the Viennese Waltz to Let’s Go Fly A Kite from Mary Poppins.

The dance scored 39 points and is the judges’ pick for tonight. Anton delivers the news to the couple during rehearsal

JB and Lauren are cheered on multiple times during the routine and come into tonight the form couple are leading the leaderboard in recent weeks.

The first of many standing ovations we expect.

Anton says the dance was ‘better than before’ as he lauds his own teaching and tells JB he’s made several improvements.

Craig Revel Horwood (pictured left) revealed he is taking ‘some much-needed time off’ in 2025 to celebrate his 60th birthday.

The Strictly Come Dancing judge, who’s birthday is on January 4th, said he feels ‘exhausted’ as he has been ‘working back-to-back constantly’ filming the BBC competition and performing in Peter Pan pantomime in Milton Keynes.

Craig confirmed after finishing the Strictly Live Tour in early February he will be ‘taking a couple of months to himself’.

The judge said: ‘I’ve been working back-to-back constantly and I’ve got my 60th next year. I feel, now more than ever, I need to take a couple of months to myself.’

Craig is set to start rehearsals for the Strictly Live tour in early January and revealed it gets ‘very emotional’ between the stars after they finish their last day.

Strictly Come Dancing revealed the full line-up for its 2025 UK tour on Tuesday, which will kick off in the new year – but two huge stars are missing.

Actor Jamie Borthwick, opera singer Wynne Evans, JB Gill and Tasha Ghouri will be donning their dancing shoes once again.

They will be joined by their co-stars Gladiator and Olympian Montell Douglas, actress Sarah Hadland and singer Shayne Ward who were previously announced.

Sadly, Semi-finalists Pete Wicks and Chris McCausland are missing and it hasn’t gone unnoticed by fans of the show.

The celebrity contestants who appeared on this year’s 20th anniversary series of the competition will take the show around the country from January 17 to February 9.

Joining them will be Strictly Judges Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke, Craig Revel Horwood will also take part and for the first time on the tour, Motsi Mabuse.

Strictly’s Tasha Ghouri has revealed that she had been inundated with deaf fans who have copied the sparkly cochlear implants she has proudly worn on the dance floor.

The deaf Love Islander star has her implant customised by Strictly’s costume team with bedazzled designs, styled to match her outfits.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s final, Tasha told : ‘The amount of messages I’ve got, especially from younger women, younger children, teenagers—they’ve said, “I’ve got representation. I’ve seen you on TV. I’ve started decorating mine as well.”http://www.dailymail.co.uk/”

‘That’s the power of representation. It’s so important, and I feel so thankful to have had the opportunity to help people find their confidence and be themselves.’

Sarah Hadland said competing on Strictly Come Dancing has made her realise she ‘put limits’ on herself as she likened her time on the ballroom to ‘living in technicolour’.

Speaking at a press conference, the 53-year-old British actress, who is most known for playing Stevie Sutton in BBC sitcom Miranda, reflected on being a finalist.

Discussing the lessons she has learned while being a competitor on the show, she said:

What it’s made me realise, which I did not expect to get out of this, is that I have actually put limits on myself. (Limits) I’ve decided.

And I don’t know if this is quite a common thing, when you’re a parent, or you’ve got other things going on in your life. I think sometimes you put all your energy into other things, and then, I think maybe what happens is you start to sort of think, you put all your belief maybe in other people, and you don’t do it for yourself.

Trying to summarise her Strictly experience, Hadland added:

I feel like I’m living in technicolour, and then when it’s over, I’m going to be living in black and white.

Chris McCausland has revealed how he is preparing for the Strictly Come Dancing ‘comedown’ when the show ends tonight

The comedian, 47, has delighted audiences on the BBC show with his professional partner Dianne Buswell and is now looking to the future after the competition.

He will soon be starring in a new Sky original family Christmas film which will hit living rooms this Christmas Eve.

Chris will star in Bad Tidings with fellow comedian Lee Mack, 56, – which he has said will give him something new to focus on after the dancing competition comes to an end.

He told The Radio Times: ‘Something like Strictly is all-consuming, so there’s always going to be a comedown. Whether you win it or go out in the quarters or week seven or whatever, it will always be deflating.’

Strictly finalist JB Gill believes he was ‘disadvantaged’ when his dance partner Amy Dowden pulled out of the competition over medical issues.

The singer, who is now dancing with Lauren Oakley, said he was shocked and found it ‘difficult’ when Ms Dowden quit the series after collapsing months after she was given the all clear from cancer.

Speaking about her exit as he bids to win the Glitterball on Saturday, Mr Gill said:

Initially I felt like it was a disadvantage, to be honest, because I was very used to dancing and working with Amy.It’s not something that’s ever happened on Strictly Come Dancing before.

Having to deal with that was a lot. I was a bit nervous, because people are invested in the partnerships, and that’s what they love about Strictly Come Dancing. And so I didn’t know how that would affect my journey throughout the whole process.

Weekly eliminations began on September 29 which has whittled the cohort down to four in time for tonight’s final when we discover who will be crowned the best on the ballroom.

When McFly musician Danny Jones was crowned King of the Jungle in Sunday’s I’m A Celebrity final…his victory spelled good news for Sarah Hadland and Tasha Ghouri.

For more than 10 years, whenever a man wins the ITV reality show, a woman lifts the Glitterball trophy and vice versa.

The curious streak began in 2012 when Olympic gymnast Louis Smith won Strictly and EastEnders actress Charlie Brooks wo I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

It continued last year when Ellie Leach won Strictly while Sam Thompson was crowned Down Under.

So will Sarah or Tasha ensure the connection lasts another year or will it be broken by JB Gill or Chris McCausland.

Chris is the frontrunner with odds ats 1-10, compared to fellow finalists JB Gill at 14-1, Sarah Hadland at 16-1, and Tasha Ghouri at 25-1.

Chris McCausland has emerged as the hot favourite to win this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The comedian’s odds of taking home the Glitterball trophy have shortened further overnight ahead of Saturday’s final.

He was 1/12 on Tuesday and has been cut into odds of 1/16 as of Wednesday morning, giving him an implied probability of 94% to win.

There is a considerable gap to JB Gill who is second in the market at 16/1, with Sarah Hadland and Tasha Ghouri even further out at 28/1 and 33/1 respectively.

Lee Astley, spokesperson for BetIdeas, said: ‘Comedian Chris McCausland continues to shorten in the market to win Strictly Come Dancing’s grand final on Saturday night.

‘McCausland was as short as 1/12 yesterday, but support continues to flood in as his odds have been cut into 1/16, an implied probability of 94% to take home the Glitterball trophy this weekend.’

Tasha Ghouri has unquestionably been one of the best dancers to appear on the ballroom this series with some stunning performances that have seen her achieve two perfect 40 scores.

But her history as a commercial dancer appears not to have endeared her to the public, having twice been forced into the dreaded dance-off in recent weeks.

The Yorkshire-born model rose to fame after appearing on the 2022 edition of Love Island.

The 26-year-old wears a cochlear implant, which memorably fell out mid-performance of an Argentine Tango last month, which has led to her becoming a disability campaigner.

Comedy actor Sarah Hadland is arguably the biggest surprise success of this year’s Strictly after some impressive performances with last year’s pro winner Vito Coppola.

Hadland has consistently found herself at the upper end of the leaderboard following some standout routines including a near perfect 39 in Blackpool in her couples choice dance.

Having fallen in love with the ballroom, the Miranda actor revealed she is working on a script for a new comedy centred around a dance instructor with Paul Coleman, co-writer of Peter Kay series Car Share.

As well as Miranda, Hadland is also known for her appearance in comedy shows That Mitchell and Webb Look, Horrible Histories and The Job Lot.

The JLS singer has all the momentum heading into the race for the Glitterball trophy having topped the leaderboard during the semi-final and Week 11.

In total the 38-year-old South Londoner has topped the leaderboard on six occasions with Amy Dowden and Lauren Oakley, after he was forced to switch professionals following the former’s collapse.

Almost eliminated on October 20 when he beat Paul Merson in a dance off, JB has gone from strength to strength culminating in a 40 points score for his perfectly performed Salsa on Saturday.

Away from the ballroom, he is perhaps best known for his time in X-Factor boyband JLS but is also known for presenting television shows including Songs of Praise and CBeebies series Down on the Farm.

Comedian Chris McCausland is the favourite heading into tonight’s final having won the hearts of the nation with his inspiring journey.

The 47-year-old Liverpudlian is Strictly’s first ever blind contestant to step onto the ballroom but it hasn’t stopped him pulling off some memorable routines with his partner Dianne Buswell.

His best performance came in the Blackpool Tower Ballroom where his American Smooth earned him 37 points which included two maximum 10s.

McCausland is known to television audiences for his role as Rudi in the CBeebies show Me Too! and his appearances on comedy panel and live stand up shows.

Before we begin our build-up to tonight’s final, let’s just remind you of the four finalists competing for Strictly glory and their chances of winning.

Strictly Come Dancing fans are set for an early Christmas treat during Saturday’s finale with Gavin & Stacey favourite Nessa is set to make a surprise appearance.

Insiders have revealed that actress Ruth Jones is set to transform into her Welsh sitcom character to read out the voting terms and conditions during the live final.

Ruth will perform the short skit during the competition ahead of the highly-anticipated final episode of Gavin & Stacey airing on Christmas Day.

The appearance will come as celebrities JB Gill, Sarah Hadland, Tasha Ghouri and Chris McCausland battle it out to lift the Glitterball trophy.

A source told The Sun: ‘The BBC have gone all out with their Strictly surprises this year — and having Ruth in as Nessa is the cherry on the cake. Last Saturday they had Wallace and Gromit read the Ts and Cs for voting, and Ruth will be doing a skit as Nessa this week.’

The finalists will each perform three times later – meaning there’ll be a dozen dances to dissect over the course of the evening.

Each couple will select their favourite dance from the series, one chosen for them by the judges and a new showdance routine.

The judges will give scores for each performance but the winner will be chosen by the viewers in a public vote.

While the results of the eliminations have been shown on Sunday despite being recorded after the live show, tonight we will know the outcome with the winners crowned.

Traditionally, the final also sees the return of last year’s champion so we can expect to see Ellie Leach return to the ballroom before the baton is handed over.
