A two-year-old boy has died after he was struck by a car in a school carpark. 

The horror incident unfolded at Durack State School, at Inala Avenue, in Brisbane’s south-west about 3.30pm on Thursday. 

Emergency services rushed to the scene after the boy suffered serious injuries, but despite the best efforts of paramedics, he could not be saved.  

Queensland Police said in a statement they are at the scene and are conducting inquiries into the incident. 

‘An investigation has commenced, and a woman is assisting police with their inquiries,’ the statement read.

A coronial van arrived at the school at 6.22pm, the Courier Mail reported. 

Parents of students were allowed to pick their children up after hours. 

The Forensic Crash Unit remained at the scene. 

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.

Images from the scene showed multiple police vehicles and an ambulance parked inside the school grounds. 

A woman was seen being comforted by another woman next to an ambulance.

Durack State School was opened in 1960 under the name Serviceton State School before it was renamed in 2001. 

The school is known for its multiculturalism among students, who speak many languages.
