alert-–-my-boyfriend-and-i-canceled-our-netflix-subscription-but-it-sparked-a-bizarre-family-feudAlert – My boyfriend and I canceled our Netflix subscription but it sparked a bizarre family feud

A woman has revealed how she and her boyfriend canceling their Netflix account sparked a bizarre family feud.

The woman, 25, took to Reddit on Monday to ask for advice after she said her partner’s aunt became furious with them for ending their subscription to the streaming service.

She explained in a post shared to the subreddit Am I the A**hole? that she and her boyfriend, 26, originally paid for a series of platforms including Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime, and Netflix, which he let his family members use for free.

But over the weekend, they decided to cancel Netflix because they realized they weren’t using it much.

She said her boyfriend then received a call from his outraged aunt, who started ‘lecturing’ him on ‘finances.’

‘This weekend we decided to cancel our Netflix ’cause we weren’t using it and we decided if there is ever something we want to watch on there, then we will get it again,’ she wrote.

‘So his aunt calls and starts lecturing him about his finances, [saying] that he shouldn’t spend so much money that he doesn’t have enough left to pay for the Netflix and that she is using it and needs him to pay.’

The woman explained that she was listening to the phone call and told her boyfriend to tell his aunt that she can pay for Netflix herself if she wants it so badly.

But the Reddit poster’s response to the situation has not gone down well with his aunt, who has now told the rest of her boyfriend’s family.

She added that they had also canceled Disney+ a couple of months prior, which had also angered his mom.

‘Now the aunt talked to his mom and they are saying I am an a**hole because I am “forcing” my boyfriend to spend all his money on me so he cant pay for the things they need,’ she revealed.

She ended the post by asking other users if she was in the wrong, writing, ‘So, am I the a**hole?’

Her post quickly went viral, and many people were quick to take her side.

‘Not the a**hole. If you want to be petty, you could tell them that they shouldn’t be so financially careless that they can’t afford to pay for their own streaming services,’ one person replied.

‘His family sounds like an absolute nightmare. I hope you don’t have to be in contact with them often.’

‘How the f**k they gonna talk about your finances and mooching off your streaming services?’ asked someone else.

Another user added, ‘Do you know a good way to be responsible about your finances? Don’t pay for streaming services you aren’t using.’

‘Streaming services aren’t a basic necessity that you owe to anyone, and it’s completely reasonable to cancel subscriptions that you aren’t using,’ a fourth comment read.

‘If his family members are so keen on keeping those shows rolling, they can definitely foot the bill themselves.

‘It’s quite the leap to accuse you of forcing him to spend his money on you just because you two are making financially responsible choices together.

‘Sounds like his family might need a subscription to a reality check.’

‘I don’t understand why you’re being tagged as the a**hole for a collective decision you and your boyfriend made. if anything they are a**holes here for being entitled,’ a fifth said.
