Minecraft fans were delighted on Tuesday after the upcoming film adaptation released a new trailer that mollified fans who were disappointed by the initial teaser trailer.

The first official trailer for A Minecraft Movie gives a more in-depth look at Jack Black and Jason Momoa, as well as a fleshed-out view of the world of the popular video game.

Fans took to social media to largely praise the new trailer in comparison to the teaser, and several even wondered if the movie had gotten a ‘glow up’ akin to the first Sonic The Hedgehog film, which got a redesign of its computer-generated title character after an initial trailer was poorly received.

Black stars as Steve, who ‘yearned for the mines’ as a child and later discovered a magical world where anything can be created — as long as it can be made out of blocks.

As in the trailer, a second group of people later find themselves in the world of Minecraft, including Garrett ‘The Garbage Man’ Garrison (Momoa), Dawn (Danielle Brooks), Henry (Sebastian Eugene Hansen) and Natalie (Emma Myers), while Jennifer Coolidge is also listed among the cast but apparently not glimpsed in the trailer.

The new trailer opens with Steve recounting his story, a comical tale in which he hoped to start working in the mines despite being just a child.

Once he’s an adult, Steve returns with his pickaxe, seemingly to dig around in an abandoned mine.

But his excavations uncover a shimmering blue block, that when properly assembled opens a portal to a magical world in which everything is built of block-like shapes.

Steve presumably is the only non-square person living in the mysterious realm for quite some time, based on his significantly grayed beard once he’s greeted by four new arrivals.

Garrett, who introduces himself to Dawn as ‘Gamer of the year, 1989,’ looks ridiculous in a pink vinyl biker jacket and with long, flowing locks, but we don’t learn anything about the backstory of the other three new arrivals.

After Steve briefly explains some of the magical world, the quintet are attacked by evil pig-like creatures (dubbed Piglins) and skeletal zombies.

‘There are dark forces who want to destroy this world,’ Steve ominously intones as the Piglins are introduced.

He gives the newcomers a tour of his workshop and all the tools and weapons they might be able to use to ward off the marauders, including TNT.

When Garret picks up a shining blue orb, Steve informs him that it’s an Ender Pearl, which can transport someone to wherever it is throne.

‘Yeah, right,’ Garrett replies dismissively as he tosses it over his shoulder while Steve cries out.

He’s instantly teleported, but just to where the pearl landed a few feet behind himself.

‘And that was the only one I had. No biggie,’ Steve says for a big punchline.

The trailer ends with night quickly falling, which exposes the group to a horde of zombies, including undead archers shooting fire-tipped arrows.

Fans gave the new trailer top marks on social media and declared it a significant improvement over the original.

The new trailer appeared to jettison some of the computer-generated animals in the first teaser and replaced them with different creatures, including a boxy wolf that Steve feeds a bone.

The teaser was also criticized for the design of the Minecraft world and how the live-action characters looked out of place in it.

Although some of the scenes are repeated in the full-length trailer, it also featured new scenes with the live-action characters that may have looked better to fans.

One X user declared ‘looks like absolute s***,’ though it wasn’t clear if they were referring to the trailer or what they presumed the film would look like.

Another person derided the use of MGMT’s Time To Pretend on the trailer soundtrack.

‘What year is this?’ the wrote in response to the song, while others said that it was overused and overexposed.
