Angelina Jolie thrilled her fans as she promoted her film Maria on Friday night in New York City.

Following a screening of the biopic Maria, in which the actress portrays opera legend Maria Callas, Jolie stopped to talk with fans, signed autographs and posed for selfies with them for about 15 minutes as she left the venue.

The 49-year-old Oscar winner, who could be nominated by multiple awards bodies for her performance, looked elegant in black as she smiled for the cameras.

Her long, blonde hair was styled straight, and her makeup was natural looking with a soft pink lip.

Maria was directed by Pablo Larrain, who is behind other projects such as Jackie (2016) and Spencer (2021).

Along with Jolie, other cast members of Maria include international stars Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Haluk Bilginer and Kodi Smit-McPhee.

In August, the biopic first premiered during the 81st Venice International Film Festival, where it competed for the Golden Lion.

The film focuses on Maria Calls, ‘the world’s greatest opera singer,’ as she ‘lives the last days of her life in 1970s Paris’ and ‘confronts her identity and life,’ per an IMDb synopsis.

While talking to The Hollywood Reporter in August, Angelina opened up about portraying Callas and taking singing lessons for the film.

‘It took many months of singing classes. Months of just getting the singing down and then the Italian classes and then the voice and doing all these things like her. You try to be precise,’ she explained.

‘I would recommend almost every human being take an opera class. To exist and never have sung with your full body as loud as you could possibly sing…’

Jolie continued, ‘It’s something I think we should all feel. It’s scary, and it is rarely asked of us. It’s rarely asked of us in life to be all that we can be or feel all that we feel.’

The film’s director revealed he was brought to tears by Jolie while shooting a particularly difficult scene.

The actress stopped to talk with fans, sigh autographs and posed for selfies with them for about 15 minutes as she left the venue.

‘We did that on the last day of shooting. We kept it for the very, very end. We had six-to-eight hours to do that. I operated the camera, so I was close to her, always,’ Larrain told Entertainment Weekly.

‘Angelina had to sing it out loud, with all of her power and humanity. By doing so, I asked her to feel the emotion and feel how broken she was in this moment of joy,’ he explained.

‘I was in shock. I was moved to tears as I saw her burning herself to the point that I think it concludes the movie in an operatic way.’
