Aussie viewers have slammed Channel Ten for prematurely declaring Donald Trump the next US President in a major blunder during their election coverage.
A screenshot of the error which read ‘Donald Trump has won the race to the White House’ was uploaded to Reddit on Wednesday afternoon.
The words appeared underneath a caption at the bottom of the network’s broadcast, which read ‘America has decided’.
Presenter Narelda Jacobs was interviewing a guest at the time when the announcement appeared during the broadcast for several seconds.
An overlay of Trump hugging his nominee for Vice President JD Vance at a rally was shown.
The broadcast then cut to a clip of Trump debating President Joe Biden as Jacobs continued to interview the guest.
‘Channel Ten getting ahead of themselves,’ the Reddit user captioned the post.
‘This was at about 1:20pm AEDT (n Eastern Daylight Time). Then it disappeared after a minute’.
Hundreds of commenters were stunned by the gaffe.
‘That’s f*****g wild lol,’ one person wrote.
‘Especially with so many mail-in ballots that aren’t allowed to be counted yet,’ another person wrote.
Others were more sympathetic and said there would a lot pressure to regularly provide updates as the votes continue to get counted.
‘It [would] be stressful over there,’ one person wrote.
A third chimed in: ‘Looking forward to this being featured in future American YouTube videos ‘proving’ the election was stolen’.
‘They may well end up being correct, but this is going [to be] super embarrassing if Harris gets up,’ another wrote.
The winner of the election being contested by Trump and his Democratic rival Kamala Harris has not yet been announced.
Trump is leading the race to the White House with the former president having secured 248 of the Electoral College votes out of the 270 needed to win.

Meanwhile Ms Harris has secured victories in Oregon, Colorado and her native state of California.
