The film is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Ruth Ware and stars Keira as a travel journalist on a cruise who witnesses a murder but no one believes her.

Last month while filming in the coast town of Portland Harbour, Dorset the production left residents ‘terrified’ after setting off fireworks from a superyacht.

Although a warning had been issued to residents in advance of the series of five-minute long firework displays, many locals were left fuming by the din that was stretched out over three hours.

Many complained the spectacle was incredibly loud and disturbed sleeping children, frightened pets and some even said it sounded like a war had started.

One resident said: ‘Would have been good to have been warned. Our windows rattled on first blast and our young dog is petrified…Does no one think of the animals?’.

While another explained she had a dog having a meltdown and a herd of frightened horses.

And a third said: ‘Flipping loud and past my bed time, just when I thought they’d finish, it would start again.’

Some said the bangs were ‘rattling my windows’, saying: ‘I thought we were being bombed’ and ‘I thought the Russians are coming’.

But one resident said: ‘It’s time all the haters get a grip on their lives. This has brought thousands of pounds into the local area. There has been notices issued.

‘If this was a ‘normal’ firework display on the seafront in Weymouth, everyone would be ecstatic about it. It’s a movie production, I’m guessing this is better than the council would ever put on?

Dorset Council has been working with the producers and have previously said they are keen to encourage film crews to the area.

A spokesperson said: ‘Dorset Council is keen to support the creative industries with a film-friendly environment and welcomes requests from production companies seeking to film in the area.
