A woman has left fans concerned after she moved to a new ‘Atlantis’ colony in Texas with the promise of living on supposedly free land.
The woman who goes by Visionary Empress on TikTok said last month she had moved to the desert in the west of the state after a man advertised free land.
‘I live here now,’ she said in the October 20 video as she showed off the mountainous area. ‘I’m so grateful to be here.’
She revealed she would be living in a tent and would eventually have a garden on the property, owned by a man who goes by Rebuilding Atlantis on the platform.
The landowner said he was creating his own community because ‘all the cities I’ve lived in, towns, villages, any part of the United States, haven’t been too fun and I think I could build something much better,’ he said in an August video.
As he continues to build his community, he has gotten his residents, water, a basin to bathe in, and a working washing machine.
However, residents will need solar panels to get electricity to fuel their lifestyles.
Many of her followers were quick to say she was going to end up in a cult that will one day have a Netflix documentary made about it.
‘Can’t believe I’m here before Netflix!’ one wrote.
‘I’ve never actually watched the prequel to a true crime documentary,’ another wrote.
But many were more concerned for her safety, with one writing: ‘I’m scared for you!!!’
‘That seems…dangerous? Reckless? Poorly thought out?’ a user wrote.
‘Check back with us from time to time… give us a sign if you’re in trouble,’ one wrote.
Another simply told her: ‘Nothing is free.’
Although Visionary Empress posted several videos seemingly enjoying her time in Atlantis, including a trip to the US-Mexico border, she announced on Friday that she has left the community.
‘It didn’t work out between Austin and I,’ she revealed, referring to another man who lived in the community. ‘So, I will not be going back to Atlantis.’
However, her biggest qualms with Atlantis was the physical labor.
‘There’s just this whole part of off-grid living that requires physical labor that I am not about to go do by myself,’ she said.
