alert-–-heart-surgeon-reveals-how-to-pick-the-healthiest-food-options-at-the-grocery-storeAlert – Heart surgeon reveals how to pick the healthiest food options at the grocery store

A heart surgeon has lifted the lid on how you can shop for the healthiest foods at the grocery store – and one of his tips may even change the way you walk down the aisles.

The information was shared in a recent video posted to TikTok by Georgia-based heart surgeon Dr. Jeremy London.

Dr. London often takes to TikTok to share his expertise, and in his latest video, he offered some guidance about how to pick out the most nutritious options while shopping at any store.

‘First, make a list,’ the expert shared in the beginning of the video. ‘This will help reduce impulse buying when you get there.’

However, the surgeon did note that you should keep a few things in mind when making this list.

‘Remember that our bodies run on three things, proteins, fats, and carbohydrates, and make sure that your list reflects whatever breakdown works for you,’ he shared.

He also suggested that you shop on the store’s perimeter, which is a tool that can help you make healthier choices, per Mayo Clinic Health System.

‘This is where the whole foods live, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, lean protein,’ Dr. London explained.

‘The aisles typically contain the highly processed, packaged foods that have added sugar, unhealthy fats and preservatives,’ he said.

Next on his list of tips for healthy shopping was making sure that you’re reading the labels on whatever you might be buying.

‘Try to find foods with minimal ingredients and minimal additives,’ he said.

His final tip was to make sure you ‘prioritize’ eating whole, nourishing foods over ones that are processed.

‘Again, fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, lean meats and avoid those packaged foods on the shelf, because the longer the shelf life, the shorter life,’ Dr. London warned.

According to experts at Cleveland Clinic, eating foods that are highly processed, like fast food, can definitely have a negative impact on your health.

It can cause inflammation in the body due to its excess salt and sugar, the Clinic explained, which can be correlated to diseases like type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

In the comments section of his video, many people seemed to echo his sentiments about healthy eating.

‘Thank you for this! We have to have structure so we don’t go crazy in the grocery store. There is SO much junk,’ one person wrote.

Another agreed, ‘I always check the levels when they expired, and buy organic vegetables and fruits, thank you Dr. London for your advice.’

‘Down 80lbs here from doing just that,’ someone else claimed.
