Kissel was found stabbed to death in the basement of his rented backcountry home having been stabbed in the neck and back.

Following his murder, authorities found Kissel had been engaged in a massive financial fraud.

He was killed by the cousin of his chauffeur who was concerned investigators would eventually uncover his involvement in a money laundering scheme orchestrated by Kissel.
