And now The Masked Singer finalist Darren Hayes has revealed the bizarre rules contestants must adhere to when they go on the Channel 10’s singing contest.

The former Savage Garden singer, 51, said the identity of the performers are so secret they are not even supposed to wear their regular cologne.

Other rules include not talking to any one during filming and wearing a cloak over their costume before going before the cameras.

Hayes made the revelations during an interview on the KIIS Network’s Will & Woody show on Wednesday.

He said contestants must sign a ‘water tight’ non-disclosure agreement once they agree to appear on the show.

‘So I couldn’t even tell my mother that I was on the show,’ Hayes said, adding: ‘Like, I wear a very distinctive cologne as well. It’s in the contract that if you that you’re not supposed to wear like the usual colognes.

‘I wasn’t even allowed to talk [backstage],’ he added.

‘They’ve changed the rules that much. There’s a person that’s next to me and I have to whisper to them, and then they ask for stuff and it’s hilarious.’

Hayes also revealed he did not know who else was on the show.

Elsewhere in the chat, the hitmaker said a friend had to convince him to appear on the show.

He added he thought he would never make it to the finals because he was voice was too recognisable.

The Truly Madly Deeply singer was revealed as the Grim Reaper during The Masked Singer grand finale on Tuesday.

Elsewhere on the episode, Snow Fox won the latest season of the singing competition.

The celebrity inside the costume was unmasked as none other than X Factor and Eurovision star Dami Im.
