A British holidaymaker has died after being found with serious injuries at one of Majorca’s top golf courses.

Police were today investigating following reports the victim suffered a fatal head injury.

It is understood cops are trying to discover whether he died from an accidental fall or was hit on the head by a stray golf ball.

The unnamed 61-year-old tourist was playing at Son Muntaner Golf Course, considered one of the most beautiful courses in Majorca and the only one in the Balearic Islands that is part of the prestigious European Tour Destinations association.

The alarm was raised around 5.45pm yesterday afternoon while the man was still alive but in a ‘serious condition.’

The initial calls said he had been hit on the head by a golf ball although officials have said they will be awaiting the results of an autopsy expected to take place over the weekend before making any further comment about his possible cause of death.

Emergency responders tried to revive him after reaching the scene and discovering he had gone into cardiac arrest.

Attempts to save his life, believed to have lasted around half an hour, proved unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Local reports said he disappeared whilst playing with a group of friends and going after a stray ball.

They are said to have gone looking for him after he failed to return before finding him unconscious on the ground.

Investigators from a local National Police Homicide Unit, who routinely probe any unexplained death in the infancy of a probe, have been tasked with trying to get to the bottom of what happened.

There has not yet been any official comment from the police force in charge of the ongoing investigation.

Son Muntaner is described online as a golf course that ‘offers both players and enthusiasts a unique experience they won’t forget.’

No-one at the course, situated between the ‘Na Burguesa’ mountain range and the bay of Palma, had yet commented.
