A hero dog has taken down a man running through the pet’s back garden as he fled an alleged crime scene.

The man was allegedly part of a group of four who were involved in an altercation with a 17-year-old boy at Melton South train station in suburban Melbourne at 5pm.

A fight broke out and the teenager was allegedly stabbed with a machete before the group ran away from the scene in the outer north-western suburb.

A 24-year-old Brookfield man tried to make his escape through a nearby backyard, where the homeowner’s children and nephew were playing.

But Oslo the staffy figured something was not right, with his protective instincts kicking in as he chased and bit the man.

After being bitten, the man clambered over a fence into a neighbouring property, where he was cornered before he was arrested.

‘Knowing that he could have possibly hidden in our backyard and the kids might have seen him but since Oslo chased him, we were happy that he kept them safe,’ homeowner April told 9News.

A police spokesperson told Daily Mail that ‘It’s believed the victim was approached by a group of four male offenders when a fight erupted at a railway station on Straughton Street just after 5pm.

‘Investigators believe the victim, a 17-year-old Cobblebank boy, armed himself with a machete but was overpowered by the offenders and sustained a slash wound to the hand during the incident.’

The 24-year-old who was bitten by Oslo was arrested a short time later but released pending further enquiries.

‘The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,’ the spokesperson said.

‘The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.’

The rest of the group has not been found and nobody has yet been charged.

Oslo has been praised for being a good boy and got lots of cuddles and a big bone.
