A ‘smokenado’ was caught on video tearing through a cornfield as firefighters responded to a raging blaze in Alabama.

Several fire units responded to the scene of a one-acre fire in Leighton shortly before 2pm on Saturday, according to Assistant Chief Jordan Davis of the Nitrate City Volunteer Fire Department.

The department requested even more backup to help battle the blaze, which cut a blackened path and unleashed the massive column of circling smoke.

‘We couldn’t have been able to handle this fire without all the help from the responding agencies,’ said Davis, who also thanked ‘the man up stairs for listening to our prayer to bring a rain shower over us.’

Smokenadoes typically only last a few minutes due to warm air rising, according to Fox Weather.

They are oftentimes harmless, but can cause fires to act erratically.
