Kamala Harris’s husband Doug Emhoff shared the toe-curlingly awkward story of how the couple met during his speech at the Democratic National Convention last night.
Emhoff, a lawyer, was set up on a blind date with Harris by a client who gave him her phone number back in 2013.
He then left her a bumbling voice note that she now makes him listen to every anniversary.
‘For generations, people have debated when to call the person you’re being set up with. Never in history has anyone suggested 8:30 am,’ Emhoff jokingly told the crowd.
Although Harris could not be in the audience to watch the speech, she shared a heartwarming picture of her watching it on X with the caption ‘I love you, Dougie’.
Emhoff then retweeted the photo with just four words ‘I love you too’.

‘I got Kamala’s voicemail; I just started rambling: ‘Hey it’s Doug. I’m on my way to an early meeting. Again, it’s Doug’, he continued.
‘I remember I was trying to grab the words out of the air and put them back in my mouth. And for what seemed like far too many minutes, I hung up.
‘By the way, Kamala saved that voicemail, and she makes me listen to it on every anniversary,’ he added.

Luckily for Emhoff he doesn’t have to wait much longer this year as the couple will celebrate their tenth anniversary on Thursday when Harris is due to speak at the convention in Chicago.
Emhoff told the crowd that Harris eventually called him back around lunchtime and the two had a laugh together.
They got married just a year later.
‘You know that laugh! I love that laugh!’ Emhoff said, referring to criticism Harris has received for it.
He continued: ‘She finds joy in pursuing justice. She stands up to bullies, just like my parents taught me to.
‘She likes seeing people do well but hates when they’re treated unfairly,’
Emhoff’s children, Ella and Cole, were in the audience at the convention while their father delivered his speech.

He talked about how Harris has cherished her step-children, calling them while she has been out on the campaign trail.
Emhoff said: ‘That’s Kamala. Those kids are her priorities, and that scene was a perfect map of her heart.
‘She’s always been there for our children and I know she’ll be there for yours too.’
Delegates are preparing to nominate Vice President Harris as their presidential nominee by the end of the week instead of President Joe Biden.
In June, Biden was still the candidate Democrats were prepared to nominate but this was thrown into doubt by early July after his disastrous debate performance against Doanld Trump.
On July 21, the President officially ended his reelection bid and endorsed Harris. A day later, she earned the support of enough delegates to become the presumed candidate for November.

Last night Michelle Obama told the convention crowd that Harris is ‘my girl’ and called on the Democratic Party to unite behind her after the Obama inner circle was accused of helping force Joe Biden from the race.
She also delivered a series of blistering insults aimed at Donald Trump.
In a mic drop moment that sparked a frenzied reaction from the audience, she said of Trump: ‘Who’s going to tell him the job he’s currently seeking might be one of those black jobs?’
The Obamas spoke while Harris held a rally 90 miles away, sparking speculation the White House is angry over the role they allegedly played in Biden stepping aside.
Michelle declared ‘hope is making a comeback’ as she entered the arena Tuesday night after Harris was formally declared the Democratic presidential nominee.
