A couple in rural Georgia find themselves facing a bizarre threat to survive in the trailer for the new Peacock series Teacup.

The new series hails from writer Ian McCulloch (Yellowstone), director E.L. Katz (The Haunting of Bly Manor) and executive producer James Wan (Saw, Aquaman).

Yvonne Strahovski – who recently welcomed her third son – and Scott Speedman star in the new series, based on Robert McCammon’s novel Stinger, which debuts on Peacock October 10.

The first two episodes will debut on October 10, with two episodes releasing each week, with the eight-episode series concluding, fittingly, on Halloween (October 31).

Wan will executive produce with his Atomic Monster partners Michael Clear and Rob Hackett plus Francisca X. Hu and Kevin Tancharoen.

The trailer begins with the overhead view of a house and shots of Strahovski’s Maggie Chenoweth and her young son Arlo (Caleb Dolden) and daughter Meryl (Emilie Bierre).

The overhead house shots keep adding words that read, ‘We are in control’… though after a cryptic shot of someone in a gas mask, the word ‘not’ is added to form, ‘We are not in control.’

The brief 30-second trailer also shows brief shots of Maggie and Arlo along with numerous other characters setting up a tense rural environment.

The final shot shows a teacup being placed over a few marbles, with the title card revealing the October 10 debut date as the trailer comes to an end.

The series also stars Chaske Spencer, Kathy Baker, Boris McGiver, Caleb Dolden, Emilie Bierre, and Luciano Leroux.

Series creator McCulloch unveiled the first footage at San Diego Comic-Con, where he revealed the meaning of the cryptic title will be revealed in the first two episodes.

‘The reasons for this are too spoiler-y to share but watch the first few episodes and all will be revealed,’ McCulloch explained.

‘Point being, the series is now very much its own thing: a puzzle-box mystery, an edge-of-your-seat thriller, a can’t-but-must look horror story, a family drama, a science fiction epic — of the keyhole variety, of course,’ he added.

Wan added in a statement, ‘”After reading Robert McCammon’s book Stinger, the entire team at Atomic Monster felt a spark.’

‘The story had all the ingredients for a captivating series and Ian McCulloch had a vision to bring it to life in a fresh way that was both startling and darkly atmospheric, but filled with a rich sense of humanity — often lacking in edgy narratives,’ he added.

‘Add in our incredibly talented cast led by Yvonne Strahovski, Scott Speedman and Chaske Spencer and fans are in for a true edge-of-your-seat experience,’ he said.

Wan added, ‘Teacup defies easy labels. It’s a genre-bending blend of horror, mystery, and drama, with layers that unfold like a captivating puzzle. It goes beyond chills and thrills and holds up a mirror to humanity, exploring the darkness that resides within us all. We hope you enjoy this wild ride as much as we’ve loved creating it!’
