In the pursuit of a good night’s sleep many of us like to get a good seven hours in.

But it seems that most people struggle to a full night of unbroken shut eye – with the average sleeping for five hours a night.

In the latest research into the nation’s nocturnal habits, it was found that most people wake up around three and a half hours after nodding off and wake up at least twice during the night.

Those surveyed said they have difficulty nodding off at least once a week – and Sunday nights are the worst with 18 per cent of people saying that was the night they got the least sleep with apprehension ahead of the new week being a factor.

The most common reason blamed for getting in the way of getting some proper shut-eye was ‘stress, worries or a racing mind,’ especially for women.

Almost 20 per cent said anxiety over finances was spoiling their sleep, which increased to 25 per cent for those aged 35-44.

As a result, only 12 per cent of us say we are ‘very satisfied’ with our sleep quality.

To help the nation improve their sleeping habits, EE has teamed up with Dr Sophie Bostock ‘The Sleep Scientist’ to announce a new in-store ‘Sleep Coaching’ service in collaboration with the new Samsung Galaxy Ring – which features advanced sleep tracking tech.
