HBO’s House of the Dragon closed out its second season with Sunday night’s season finale, which left fans mostly underwhelmed.
The 70-minute finale – entitled The Queen Who Ever Was – didn’t provide the spectacle that many Game of Thrones fans had come to expect from season finales.
Many took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their frustration over the episode, which ultimately set the table for what many are hoping is an exciting Season 3… although it comes at the expense of a lackluster finale.
While there were its share of surprising moments – including a bold gambit by Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and a shockingly unclaimed Iron Throne – many were left disappointed.

The first season ended with the shocking deal of Rhaenyra Targaryn’s (Emma D’Arcy) son Lucerys at the hands of Aemond (Ewan Mitchell), which set the stage for the “war” to come.
Still fans didn’t get much in terms of actual battle action in Season 2, which is a primary reason why many felt underwhelmed.

The series debuted in 2022, and while it was quickly renewed for Season 2, fans had to wait nearly two whole years for the second season.
It’s unclear what the production timeline is for Season 3 but if it’s another two-year wait, fans clearly won’t be happy.
