Former Warrior Nun star Toya Turner has joined the main cast of Chicago P.D. for a brand new series regular role that’s set to begin in the upcoming season 12.

The actress has been tapped to play Kiana Cook, according TV Line, a patrol officer that ‘loves the adrenaline’ of the job and its stakes that come with it, ‘who doesn’t blink in the face of chaos,’ although her character had previously been named Yara Page.

Turner is no stranger to the One Chicago universe, considering that she previously had guest starring roles on Chicago Fire and Chicago Med, but each time playing different characters.

In another connection to the Windy City, the Jamaican-American actress spent most of her formidable years growing up in Chicago.

Turner’s entrance to the police procedural action series, a Chicago Fire spin-off, comes on the heels of Tracy Spiridakos’s exit from the NBC show after eight seasons as Detective Hailey Upton Halstead, seven of which were spent as part of the main cast.

This won’t be the first time Turner has appeared in a One Chicago series during her career as an actor.

When she makes her debut on Chicago PD, it will actually mark the third One Chicago show that she’s appeared on, making her one of only a few actors to star in the three series with three different characters.

The actress, 33, played Peaches, a prostitute, who was seen in episode four of season two, as reported by Hello! magazine, as well as a character named Jayna in the season two premiere of Chicago Med. 

Turner was most recently seen in the Netflix series Warrior Nun.

Her Hollywood resume also includes a recurring role in NBC’s New Amsterdam, a guest spot on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, Netflix’s Easy, as well as Fox’s The Mick and Empire, as reported by Deadline.

Her most notable film role was in the indie feature Dead Women Walking, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2018. 

Being an actor of the theatre, her stage credits including Raisin In The Sun (A Noise Within Theater in Los Angeles) and Blues for An Alabama Sky (Court Theater in Chicago).

Created by Dick Wolf and Matt Olmstead, Chicago P.D. premiered on NBC as a mid-season replacement back in January 2014.

Chicago P.D. focuses on the elite Intelligence Unit from District 21, which houses patrol officers and the department’s elite, as they tackle the city’s most heinous offenses, such as organized crime, drug trafficking and high-profile murders. 

The team is led by Hank Voight, played by Jason Beghe, an enigmatic and often mercurial chief of the Chicago P.D.’s Intelligence Unit who’s a loyal cop despite his tough and sometime brutal exterior 

The current ensemble cast of actors includes the likes of Jason Beghe (Sgt. Hank Voight), LaRoyce Hawkins (Officer Kevin Atwater,) Marina Squerciati (Officer Kim Burgess), Patrick John Flueger (Officer Adam Ruzek), Benjamin Levy Aguilar (Officer Dante Torres) and Amy Morton (Desk Sergeant Trudy Platt). 

The upcoming season 12 of Chicago P.D. is scheduled to premiere on NBC on Wednesday, September 25, at 10pm ET.
