Chris Hemsworth made his long-awaited return to San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday to showcase the new trailer for his animated film Transformers One.

The 40-year-old actor was long a mainstay of Hall H at the San Diego Convention Center when he was starring as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.

Now he’s back for Transformers One, Paramount’s animated prequel to the Transformers franchise, which hits theaters September 20.

He was joined by co-stars Brian Tyree Henry (D-16),  Keegan-Michael Key (B-127) and director Josh Cooley at the Hall H panel, where the trailer was shown to fans for the first time.

The film offers an origin story for two of the Transformers franchise’s most iconic characters – Optimus Prime (Hemsworth) and Megatron (Henry), when they went by different names – Orion Pax and D-16.

Hemsworth hit the stage in Hall H of the San Diego Convention Center donning a white t-shirt under a white button-down short-sleeved shirt with a long gold chain.

The actor also sported a silver watch and light blue jeans as he greeted the Comic-Con faithful once again.

He was joined by his co-stars and director to discuss the film and reveal the latest trailer, which showcases how Optimus Prime – then known as Orion Pax – and Megatron – then D-16 – used to be the best of friends.

The trailer begins with Hemsworth’s voice over where he says, ‘For thousands of years, we have been at war,’ as they show Optimus and Megatron squaring off.

‘But before we were enemies… we were like brothers,’ Orion says, as they cut to many, many years earlier, when Orion and D-16 were best friends.

They both had jobs at a factory of some sort, though one scene shows that not all of these robots had the ability to transform.

Some of the larger transformer robots bump into D-16 as he tells them to watch where they’re going.

One of the larger bots says, ‘It’s not like you can transform,’ as Orion fires back, ‘Hey Darkwing. My finger can transform. Guess which one,’ as he mocks the iconic Transformer sound as the angered bot tries to hit him… but D-16 blocks the punch.

‘Allow me,’ D-16 says as he punches Orion himself, as he later thanks him for having his back, as D-16 says, ‘No matter what.’

Orion, D-16, Elita-1 (Scarlett Johansson) and B-127 a.k.a. Bumblebee (Key) are all seen watching an, ‘S.O.S. message from the surface,’ as they go to investigate, seemingly to prove the transformers that they have more to offer.

‘It’s time to show them we are more than meets the eye,’ Orion says, as the four bots reach, ‘a cave with teeth,’ as B-127 jokes, ‘Nothing scary about that.’

They go in to explore when they come across an ancient Transformer known as Alpha Trion (Laurence Fishburne).

‘I see strength in you. Take these and access your full potential,’ Alpha Trion tells them, as he essentially turns them all into Transformers.

They show the bots going through some growing pains with their transforming abilities as Orion ultimately turns into the iconic red semi truck as Alpha Trion says, ‘How you choose to use this power is ultimately up to you.’

Orion says quietly, ‘We roll out,’ but none of the others can hear him as Elita says, ‘Louder,’ and he says, louder, ‘Transform and roll out!’

Orion tells D-16 that he wants to, ‘help build a better world,’ but D-16 insists, ‘We can be so much more.’

Elita tells Orion that she’s noticed D-16 has been ‘different’ as he’s seen pulling his huge arm-gun at someone.

‘Yeah, yeah, no I picked up on that,’ Orion says and B-127 insists, ‘I picked up on that too.’

The trailer shows the Autobots and Decepticons logos being forged as Orion says, ‘We could have built the future together,’ but D-16 says, ‘I don’t think so.’

The trailer winds down with Orion saying, ‘The time is now for us to stand together, as one,’ as the final shot shows Decepticons like Starscream and Soundwave and Shockwave as B-127 says, ‘Guys, raise your hand if wave is in your name? There’s a lot of waves.’
