Anthony Albanese’s not-so-subtle boast to social media about his tax cuts has gone down like a lead balloon with negative comments flooding the post.

The Prime Minister took to X on Tuesday to remind ns they should be receiving a higher pay cheque after his reworked stage three tax cuts kicked in on July 1.

‘Quick reminder – check your payslip,’ Mr Albanese told voters.

But ns furious at the high cost of household items such as groceries and petrol – not to mention the cost of housing itself as mortgages and rents soar – unleashed at the PM.

Many said the increase in pay was offset by the rising cost-of-living that Labor has presided over in the last few years.

‘Quick reminder – your pay now purchases less than it did a year ago,’ one person fired back.

‘My overall net pay went up $55 -a-week YAY!! My rent went up $40-a-week the week before, let alone my car insurance, groceries, petrol, and car rego,’ another person said.

‘Tell me again how you are addressing the cost of living crisis.’

‘Wow $20 a week … rent is up $200, I’m no good at maths I presume I’m better off,’ a third said.

Others pointed out that people on age and disability pensions won’t get the increased pay.

‘Check your bank statement from 2021 and see just how much worse this government has made your cost of living,’ one person said.

Shadow treasurer Angus Taylor claimed ‘s inflation problem was ‘homegrown’ rather than caused by global issues.

‘ is in an entrenched household, consumer confidence and productivity recession because of Labor’s homegrown inflation,’ he told Sky News.

‘Under Labor, ns’ standard of living has collapsed. After three failed budgets, the Albanese Labor Government has no plan to restore it.

‘Hardworking ns can see right through Labor’s cost of living con job.’

Many commenters also pointed out Labor’s links with the CFMEU which has seen the union’s Victorian-Tasmanian arm put into administration over recent allegations of bribery and bullying.

One commenter pointed out that wages ‘are still not enough. Even with your well intended tax cuts’.

According to the Organisaton for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), wage growth in has dropped over the last five years.

The OECD said real wages for ns – determined after inflation is deducted from wages – were 4.8 per cent lower in the March quarter of 2024 than at the end of 2019.

‘This is one of the largest drops in real wages among OECD countries,’ it said.

‘Real wages grew in 2024 for the first time in nearly three years, but households are still facing pressure under the cost-of-living crisis.’

Under Labor’s revised stage three tax cuts, Aussies will get a boost to their monthly pay.

The saving depends on tax brackets but federal government analysis shows the average full-time worker earning around $98,220 will be getting a cut of $2134 a year, or $41 a week.
