Former n Idol favourite Courtney Murphy has taken the brave step to return to performing and recording after being diagnosed with late-stage bowel cancer.

Courtney, 45, who rose to fame on the singing competition in 2004, revealed he was battling the cruel disease in April.

After undergoing surgery and chemotherapy Courtney the musician delighted his fans earlier this month with a show in Freemantle, WA.

And now it appears Courtney is set to release new music with his band The Murphy Brothers.

Courtney and his siblings Chris and Kieran Murphy are set to drop a new single called Perfect Little Mess on July 3.

The brothers have also readied a new album called Something in the Water.

‘With all the love and support we’ve received these past few months, it’s great to be able to share some new music,’ Chris told Perth Now.

‘Courtney’s really proud of this album, we all are. It was a lot of fun to put together, and Courtney turned in a phenomenal performance. Of course, he steals the show.’

The beloved singer’s brothers Kieran and Chris shared the devastating news of Courtney’s cancer battle via a GoFundMe page launch in April.

‘Our beautiful brother Courtney Murphy is in for the fight of his life,’ began his family on the fundraising page. 

‘It is with heavy hearts that we share Court has been diagnosed with advanced stage bowel cancer. It’s very serious.

‘Many of you will know Courtney for his amazing musical talent and his big voice,’ continued the heart-wrenching statement. 

‘We think it’s fair to say he’s been entertaining West Aussies for the best part of 30 years – either as a wide eyed kid on n Idol, on stage in We Will Rock You, or just gigging with us – his brothers – in Murphy’s Lore and The Murphy Brothers. 

‘As a self-employed musician with a wife and three young children, Courtney will not be able to work for the foreseeable future which leaves his young family fighting much harder than we want them to be. 

‘Anyone who knows Courtney knows that his heart is as a big as his voice and we’ve set up this GoFundMe page in the hope that we can ease some of the burden on his young family.

‘Any funds generated will go directly to Courtney Murphy, his wife Jane and children as they navigate the difficult road ahead,’ it concluded. 

As of Saturday, June 29, Courtney’s GoFundMe has raised almost $140,000.

The shock news follows the Murphy family losing their father to brain cancer. 

‘We lost our Dad in January to a brain tumour. Now Court is fighting for his own life,’ brother Chris said.
